Cripes!! Wow... the cell rot actually left corrosion that looks like flames. That thing had to have been sitting in a stagnant drawer for a decade or three.

Tried to save one with the fake MOP. It had been in a coffin for 15 years. The rot was so bad my thumbnail took out chunks of metal. It was tossed.

One of our members showed me boxes of NOS cell rot HESS razors that were that bad of worse!
Krackle is bad news as are the black wedges of those manufacturers. Also on the iffy list are torti scales where the clear is bad and makes its outlines on the blade metal. HESS, DD, and some others are notorious.
Poor young sap in the posts had to learn the hard way as I did!

One of many reasons why I'm glad I started the learning curve here, before I even touched a razor!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: As the youngest of four boys (*and never being the first in line for something, unless a brother had that special glint in his eye), one of my dominant modes of learning has become "watching, & learning from other's mistakes".

Yea. That's exactly why I knew not to trust that glint in my brother's eye. I never peed on the electric fence. I'm not much of a poker player, I just knew by the look in his eye that despite not knowing the outcome, it would NOT benefit me, and he probably won't stop laughing for a couple days.

See what your thoughts on this one are: Old Victorian Civil War Era Wade Butcher Barbers Big Chopper Straight Razor | eBay

To me it looks like it's full of rust and chips with a crack midway along the edge. 3 bidders over $150. Final price $232.50. Ouch, gotta love those WBs, they are always real cash cows.

Yeah, I saw that one & he said it had no rust on it in the listing. It looked like it might be over 8/8 but the rust is scary along the edge. Here's the link. I just found it. He says this, "my digital camera flash incorrectly records as "rust brown" in color. I can spot rust when I see it!
