One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

Comes with safety razor, blades, brush, soap/cup AND a humidor?

Maybe the price is for the humidor.....but the SR box looks nice

    Hello gents,
I spent very little on this on ebay, yet to receive it. I bought it with the aim of learning how to hone on something that isnt my actual straight razor, and also to practice some sandpapering*.
Saw this thread and thought I would really get my moneys worth and hear the experienced guys talk about all its faults (that I no doubt it has), for educational purposes!

Well you sure took it easy on yourself :<0) It doesn't look like it needs much and then you will be looking for another that is not 1 of your actual straight razors. I mean, I don't see anything major wrong with it. Except for the fact you have to work around the etch, a polish may be your only punishment before the hones. Maybe a small pit on the bevel under that black spot but that is taken out with the hone.

I saw this thread pop up active again, started by JoeD like 3 years ago.... reminds me of how much I miss Joe's contributions to SRP. I must get a message to both Joe and Carrie.

That isn't a true humidor, only a nice wooden box probably with a nicely packaged desiccant attached to the inside of the lid. To cigar box collectors that worth at the most about $20US on an eBay auction. Gotta keep an eye on this one to see if a whale was caught and then try to get the whales name because I have a fancy box full of Pakistani razors that I'll price in the stratosphere, since who ever buys the "package" surely would buy additional useless items (except maybe the razor. That doesn't look too bad.)

Good eye, the krackled "clear" material of the scales is like a blow torch to the steel. Clear celluloid is the worst offender for cell rot.

Antique Craftsman Solingen Germany Straight Razor W BOX | eBay

Classic example of cell rot. You can see where the orange colored spots are creating the worst of the rot.

So I guess even the scales would be unsalvageable, or do they eventually stop gassing out?
