Here's a W&B with 2 bids on it and it's currently up to $63. Large Wade and Butchers are popular with some of our members. Can you see anything that may cause concern or reduce it's value?
Mostly this razor is in decent condition... "for it's age". The two issues I see are that the horn scales are showing issues around the edges, but they can be replaced for time or money. The larger issue is that the bevel is already into the shoulder/stabilizer. Can anyone tell us why this is an issue?“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

I reckon its going to mean that the toe will wear faster than the heel on the hones as theres more metal at the heel than at the toe.
Unless the owner to be can somehow figure out a way to add just the right amount of pressure to the heel so it wears at the same rate as the toe (pretty much impossible I'd imagine), honing that razor will lead to some odd results!

Wow, quite odd to see one that big go so cheap even with that wear issue. I'd have figured most would over look that. In one pic it looks to have pitting also, but in the others it doesn't. I guess it's just that one pic makes it look that way.

So true! I spotted a DD I was after a couple of weeks back when the most I'd seen a DD go for (Grim Reaper excluded) was about $180 and that was for a mint razor.
So I stuck my snipe in at $220 as I really wanted to win. The next day I look and it went for... $305. Darn bidding war at the last minute!

I guess I'm willing to put more time in blades than most. Many of the blades shown looked reasonable to me even with there possable issues. So far I have only gotten a few tursd that where only worth their collors, washers, and wedges. One may as well have been made of swiss cheese as the full blade is rotted, got it for a buck at an antique shop with a few other blades... worth a shot haha...
I've been on a bidding frenzy lately lol but my bids ar rock bottom and I rarely win stuff, but I have cherry picked a few great buys that way

Thank you. Knowing what you are getting into is completely different than a surprise. The Puma pictured above has the potential to have major issues with pitting on the bevel. Also, the pitting will always be on the rest of the blade. Someone may be able to reduce their appearance but that may cost the gold wash. The point is that it appeared like a fault free find until closer inspection.
Keep them coming guys!“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

You're welcome.
Along with the possible pitting, there's interesting corresponding patterning on the tang and blade, that might or might not be cell rot setting in. Very hard to say with pictures, but faux tortoise is susceptible. Only future tests will confirm/dismiss this.
If cell rot is the case, a brandname item has gone from "highly desireable collectable" to "complete overhaul needed"
