Thisisclog, Look at Satinedge with the clear scales and that poor Spike. Cell rot will give the lots of little "freckles" This will almost always be on the blade steel where it is covered by the scales. The portion of the blade (spine area) above the scales will often be clean and shining. These are bad enough that the corrosion has spread above the scales.

The KeenKutter is just rusted and cracked, and the rope handle one has a large area of rust that COULD have been caused by rot, or simply being put away wet. It was also obviously broken and cut down at some point.
Now this is an informative post instead of just a response.

That was kind of what I was thinking, just seemed like an example of people paying for a name.

What do you guys think about this guy? I see some pitting.

Looks fine to me, good thing I'm taking my RAD meds otherwise I might put snipe in on that.

This is a winner here. No reserve on it. Several generations old. I think he changed his mind about selling it though.

This is how it looks in the basic photo. And it would have been easy to change the angles, or lighting to make it look better than this.


But take another look with proper lighting and no attempts to hide things...

suddenly the chatter marks from somebody grinding merrily away with a dremmel or poor skills on a grinding wheel become visible.
Its gonna take some work to make that go away (when its even possible)

Shouldn't be to bad to fix that up. Unless the temper was buggered up.

+ 1 on that, power tools on razors scare me!

I saw this Wonderedge come up for sale today and I'm sure it'll sell for quite a bit because it's a good looking razor and the seller looks somewhat reputable. I'm probably not the only one who would pass because of the hone wear which is much more visible in the second photo. Always enlarge the photos when possible before placing a bid.

my first ebay razor has worse hone wear then that .. i didnt realize that thing to the right of the photos gives you more photos ( if there is ) that clearly showed the hone wear .. i learned and knock on wood havent bought anything i didnt know i was getting into since !!!! lesson learned !!
