Thread: FS:Wapienica razors

Has anyone tried one of the new finishing stones woj is offering? I've decided I'm not poor enough

i'm probably going to buy one very soon. i think i heard these are the same stones Tony used to sell but I emailed him to be sure. They are a ridiculoushly good value and come in a more usable size than you can get straight from the manufacturer. the only thing that's making me hold back is that i seem to remember Tony saying he rejected many stones in his shipments for reasons i can't remember. i tried searching the boards for info about stones from that company and there isn't a whole lot/virtually no information to be found.

I've seen similar ones offered quite cheaply elsewhere but given what the vintage items fetch in auctions it seems strange that these are going for so little..

Yeah, but where else can you get a razor that hones as easy and shaves as nice as these for $11.50?

I ordered two Wapienica razors, an Arkansas stone, and WARS Shaving Cream Jun 22. Everything arrived today, and in fine shape. Overall, I'm very happy with the quick delivery (eleven days) and product quality. First rate.

I'm off to the stones tonight.

No no, I was talking about the finishing stone and wondering if it's up to snuff (given that it's natural and all) as I'm trying to develop a honing arsenal on the cheap. The razors themselves are fantastic and a complete steal .

They come with some type from instructions, box or similar?

I think Lynn was just saying that price isn't a good indicator of quality since the razors (even so inexpensive) are superlative so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a finishing stone offered at such a great price.

I spent last night preparing a Wapienica for use. I probably spent an inordinate amount of time on the 4K Norton establishing a visible bevel, but I managed to get one. I too noticed that I needed to use an X-pattern to get an even bevel. That made my first time honing a little more challenging.

After creating the bevel, I did the standard pyramids I've read on this forum, alternating between a 4K and 8K Norton:

After that, I did 10 laps each on a 1.0 and 0.5 pasted paddle strop from Tony Miller. Finally, I did 40 laps on a hanging strop. The hanging hair test produced good results all along the edge.

The result this morning? I'll need to hit the stones again, 'cause the shave wasn't all that. But I am encouraged, considering it's the first razor I've ever honed myself.

I can also report that the scales made shaving a tad difficult, due to their heavy weight. But nothing that caused me to slip up.

I'll hopefully have better news in a couple of days.
