I have no protocol because I love simplicity. I tested it and found out it did cut a few of my arm hairs so I felt the initial bevel was there. I marked the bevel with a felt tip and took my Mueller Thuringer and started honing, testing every 20 to and froes on the hone. If at the sharp edge you find some ink after 20 laps it tells you you still got some way to go. If after another 20 to and froes the bit of ink at the sharp edge has gotten significantly smaller you know you can continue with the polishing hone, if not you need to create a bevel on a coarser hone. I did not need to with this Wapi.
I never use pyramids, if I feel the razor is overhoned I strop it a couple of times with minimal pressure and the spine lifted a few millimeters off the leather or linen. Stropping with the spine off the strop is very controversial on SRP but it works for me every time I have an overhoned edge.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Thanked: 17Just to confirm, some of the razors have no markings at all, correct? The one I just got has no marking anywhere along the tang or scales.

Thanked: 1587That's what I've heard. I've only got the ones with SMF stamped on the shank so I can't say for sure.
Just to add my two cents - I ordered four SMF stamped wapis on July 5 and they arrived, very well packaged, on July 17th. Pretty good considering they came to Australia from Poland. They all had a decent bevel already established and I was able to hone all four in less than an hour. I've used three of them so far, and they all shave great! Highly recommended!

Well... I just threw down and ordered 3 more! Gawd what a deal! I can satisfy my RAD on the cheap and get some exceptional shaving razors to boot! That brings my total to 5. Now to start thinking about some nice scales...
Great job Woj!
Thanks!

Woj, do these razors have jimps as well? I'd love to get a couple more with the triangle and jimps.

The ones I just received have jimps on the underside of the blade, but are smooth all the way across the top

Some guy I keep in the basement wearing leath...
Oh wait, yeah, ummm, jimps are the serrations (sometimes called ribbing) seen on the shank to aid grip. They can be present on the top and bottom, or just the bottom.
Apparently the standard is for 40 ribs per inch. Jimps are sometimes referred to as 'flutting'.
