Thanked: 4They make everywhere look good on TV! You go to the same place and you get a week of rain and then when the weather clears up you end up either sunburnt or in the toilet for most of the second week due to something, you weren't quite sure of the origin of, you ate.
The lack of decent tradesmen over here is due to the dearth of apprenticeships which really took hold in the 80s. Academic training is never quite as good as learning a job hands on where you learn little tricks from journeymen that have often been passed down over generations. Not that there isn't a place for both academic and hands on training but the old block or day release seemed to work well enough.
The only drawback I can see in employing a lot of Eastern Europeans is the fact they usually aren't aware of the standards that are required by law over here so some retraining is often required (not that a lot of native tradesmen aren't just as likely to be unaware of a lot of standards or requirements.)
Luckily Poland is a large country so they can, hopefully, cope with the loss of tradesmen and professionals.

Thanked: 0Has anyone else had problems with extremely long shipping times? I placed a large order almost a month and a half ago, and still haven't received it yet. I've sent several emails to wojtec regarding the problem, but the only real response I got back said that it was shipped on the 5th. Any suggestions?

The non-trade skilled folks from Poland are great as well. I am an engineer, and have most often been impressed by Poles and other eastern European engineers when I get the chance to work with them. I seem to get more 'out of the box' thinking from US and western European engineers, but I'd rather have Western European engineers check the calculations. They are taught precision and the fundamentals very well. - John

As far as I know Wojtec sends ordered items by ECONOMY mail. PRIORITY is much more expensive (should be around 10$ more depending on the package size).
If the parcel is bigger it will NOT go by air mail and that takes LONG especially to USA.
There is also 1% chance (I know it is a lot but this is reality in Poland) that the package will be lost (probably stolen )... Just wait bit longer.

Thanked: 0I'm not too worried. I've been satisfied with my orders from him in the past. I guess it's just frustrating waiting for shipping from another country for a month and a half.

Hey man,
try not to sweat it. I e-mailed him to ask him about my first order and it arrived the very next day. To Hawaii it took about a month or so I think.
