There was a 18th century Christian sect that started in England and then became somewhat big in America - they preached and adhered quite strictly to celibacy. It only took few generations and they were no more.

Homosexuality was widely practiced in the ancient world alongside with heterosexuality - that didn't make those civilizations or cultures extinct in any way. It was heavily persecuted in the western world for a couple of thousand years - that didn't make it go away either.

Same as prostitution (heterosexual and homosexual) - in the western world it's been largely considered immoral, and has been illegal more often than not, yet that hasn't made any difference.

It's anybody's right to estrange from their children over disapproval of how they live, but I don't see how that makes for a better world. It makes for pockets of self-righteousness but that seems pretty far from the "drinking and hanging out with the lowlife of the day" type of love from the second part of the Bible.

Oooooh let's not make this about religion please.

But while we are on the topic.

The hanging with lowlifes and drinking second half is also where the after the first and second admonishing not to even break bread with that person anymore. So if you so choose to challenge someone on their religious ideals might not hurt to do a fact check.

Seeing as to how this was the world we (each individually) want to live in why don't you just say you wish you lived in a world where you rule supreme and your judgment is the very word of god.

On the contrary. The Bible points out that ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There is None righteous, not one. The Epistle to the Romans chapter one shows us graphically that there is very little difference between mankind since the beginning. "Progress" in the form of education, technology, industrialization, have not changed the fact that ours is a fallen nature. It also teaches us to hate the sin, but love the sinner. For those who realize that there is no place for self righteousness.

I'm done BTW, I'll defer to you for the last word.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

May be I did get my facts wrong, but in my defense the story where Jesus tells the hooker to go away because this was her third warning doesn't seem to get the same amount of airtime as the others. So, it's an easy one to miss.

Why? My word isn't more perfect than yours, you can have any opinion, but just a list of different opinions is not at all interesting to me. A lot more interesting is why people have those opinions and if they feel a little bit odd about having them. That's how religion got involved - it seems to be what your opinion is based on, so I pointed out that you could base the exact opposite opinion in the same religious argument. Isn't that interesting?

The only post you had deleted was for using profanity, if you'd skipped that f-bomb it'd still be here.

Wow, didn't see this going on for nine pages when I wrote the original post. I don't picture a utopia at all. I picture a piece of land that I can make as close to MY utopia as I can. My neighbor can build MY living hell right next door cause it is HIS utopia past the property line. We will never agree on everything, so do what you want; if it doesn't harm others. You don't like homosexuality... don't be a homosexual, but don't say you can't marry or have the same rights as me. Either it is a right for everyone or it is not a right at all. Drugs, drinking and lowlifing... fine it's your life and as long as it doesn't affect me in a direct way; have at it. Religion... pick whatever you believe and pray sun up til sun down it's cool with me. Be free, be happy, and be good to your fellow man.

The problem with our government today, besides SS, is more than can be contained probably in the entirety of SRP. I am a fan of scratching most everything and try again at the founding documents knowing what we know now. And maybe a new amendment for wet shaving...

Or you could not discriminate, maybe? Why are you posing only two options in regards to homosexuality, i.e. that it doesn't exist or where it's a problem that it does exist? Why not another option where it's not a 'problem' that it exists?

I do, realise, Ivan, mate, that getting into a debate with you is fraught with danger, you're a very wise fellow, sir, and I'm sure I'll be shown up to be just silly, which is actually quite OK with me.

[EDIT] I hasten to add I'm not suggesting you're discriminating, I'm using the word 'you' to mean 'one' and I realise that saying something is horrible does not mean that one would discriminate against people who might practice a 'horrible' act...

See, in my world I got rid of religion. I guess if I also did away with the government we'd have nothing to talk about for 9 pages...

probably would end up evolving into a discussion about creating ways to keep people moral, and how to ensure that everything that needed to be done was done, or religion and politics if you like
