I care.
Recently I did have the chance to talk to a Honduran woman about the economies of South American.
She was a lawyer in Honduras and was quite well educated and her statements basically mirrored this article with the exception of the talk about Socialism.
She thinks Chavez is the devil BTW.
I also spoke with a Mexican, not sure of his immigration status and considering my position
(security uniform almost identical to the local PD, plus I doubt he read well enough to know what my badge said)
I didn't ask as I suspect he would have turned and hauled ass !!
He said (much like the article said) that wages here were 9 pr 10 times those in Mexico and he could make a Mexican weeks pay here in a day.
He sent $300 home per month to take care of his parents (think he said he was 34) and kept the rest.
I didn't ask about savings because illegals have a habit of keeping cash since they don't have the proper ID to open a bank account, and talk of savings would no doubt make him nervous.(the police in Mexico are corrupt after all)
I asked him about having to pay bribes for public services in Mex and he replied
" Que servicios publicos ?" what public services??
I also asked him what he liked best here and he said....
I swear.....
no really....
get ready....
"Here I have a car, in Mexico all I had was a cactus!"
I swear he said it.

(Let me tug at my heart strings ---twwwwaaaaaannng!!)
I know there has been hints in this thread about all this being about dislike of Mexicans but for me, the fact that they are Mexicans makes me have a heart about the whole situation. I would be doing the same if I was them and I do wish Mexico could be a prosperous country and would like to see them be successful in this country. If you get the chance to speak to other Latin Americans, and bring up the discussion about Mexicans, then you will see a show of racism/ethnicism as most speak poorly about Mexicans --- I asked a girl from Puerto Rico once why this was so and she said it was because Mexicans have a high percentage of Indian blood -- that is even an added level of racism (I have very little ,but enough, Indian blood to find this offensive). So I find myself rooting for the Mexicans but just wish things could be done legally and by the book -- and I see the allowance of illegal immigration with no push for assimilation as a means to create a subclass of hard working quasi-slaves gladly taking the minial jobs we discard like half-eaten chicken bones.
