When Beaver pelt prices are low…..nobody targets them…so then there is a shortage of castor. That shortage ,drives the price through the roof !

It is in a lot of food actually, it is one of the things that falls into the category of natural flavouring. It also gets used in tobacco products as a flavouring.

Do you use the traps that run into the water on a one way ratchet?

In college one weekend I went with a friend on his trapping line route. He used that kind, I though it pretty clever .
Beaver steps on trap then bolts into the water, trap ran down a cable into the river, and beaver was safely chilled and hidden from predators till we came along..
Back then I think he said he got like 80 cdn per pelt.
    That was 1987 though.

Yes…I use both the body gripping traps and the footholds on a one way slide wire …as you mentioned above. I also have a snare license….but have not snared any. The most I’ve got for ONE beaver pelt was 78.00 US…and that year I had caught 50….and averaged around 35.00 per pelt..2008 ..Today’s average is 11.00 .

Ouch! From an average of $35 to $11 13 years later? Man, that's a thump on the gonads.

Couple of honey do’s off the list so one can get back to the car. Relatively guilt free….

Quiet, single bulb, modern housing in brushed s.s.

And replaced the kitchen patio slider with the cool weather before the next heat wave.

Old door had ruts in the track and was breezy at best.
New one opens either way and has internal blinds. Way better for privacy and to keep dog proof and clean.

    Now back to the garage.
