Thanks for the compliment but as I said it doesn't take a lot of talent to swap lenses.

The unit I'm looking at is supposed to be able to make it possible to use LED bulbs.

However I've had way more financial surprises these last few months than I need and this upgrade will have to wait.

With that said I will keep the Red LED lights in mind. :

Still needs painted but im running out of weekend time so it will have to wait till next week.
    looks nice!

In MN that would be a recipe for disaster.

Here it is a shut off/drain in the basement and blow out the sprinkler system for winter.

    No water no freeze....

My shut-off is in the crawl space and the drain is right in that box. In the winter I normally drain and shut it all down too. But this box will help protect the pipes coming out of the house and going to the manifold that is in the ground about 3 feet in front of the box. It also has a drain. This just looks much better than the pipes. BTW, the Faucet IS a Freeze-cock. It gets cold here too.

It's been awhile since we talked about the old Aladdin Lamps.

Since I was able to keep the Model B burner from the broken font I decided to build a lamp. The burner had the wrong gallery on it so I picked up a vintage Model B then I found a 'Colonial' font delivered for $50.

After sharing my good fortune with Benz I was having second thoughts. Seems that the colonial was the very first glass font that Aladdin made and somehow the way they joined the bowl to the pedestal made it very sensitive to temperature changes. Such as pouring cold outside temp kerosene into a room temp font could make it break.

So I've been very careful cleaning this font up!!!! This is right after opening the shipping container.

It's drying on my table as I write.

I also received this today. It's the new version of a Bug Screen which is to keep insects who enter the chimney from falling down and breaking the mantle.

    Boy! Ain't YOU fancy!

Mine is sitting on the windowsill at the shop. Got 3 new mantles. A ball shade fitment and shade from Eboy.
Even found 1 gallon of Kerosene at Academy.

This thing called work has killed lots of projects. Been working on some strops.

One day, I will windex and paper-towel it all off and take the stuff home.
Figure to fire the mantle there instead of breaking it transporting it.

Might be I am waiting for the hurricane.

    I dig the bug cap.....

Hehehe---no fancy here--just practicing the 6 P's. A single bug flying over the chimney that gets killed from the heat and drops down on the mantle would destroy that mantle so I look at it as an investment. I have a vintage one which I like the looks of better but the new ones also act as a 'Heat Deflector'. Until you get yours home and operational you have no idea of the amount of heat these things put out!

I actually 'may' buy 5 gallons of kerosene but I believe Benz is seriously considering a 33 gallon barrel for his place. So far I've purchased the 1 gallon jugs but I may purchase a larger amount/however so far buying the 1 gallon on sale is much less expensive than buying the larger containers and I can't find a bulk supply.

I have found that filling these things using the 1 gallon jug and a funnel is a MAJOR PITA! So I came up with this set up. Laugh all you want guys but it works and works Well!

I drilled a 1/2" hole in the cap of a used jug then used JB Weld and forced a male Lincoln air tool connector through the hole. After it set up I attached the fuel line to the connector and used a 1/4" bolt as a 'Plug' at the end.

I do have to stop and let the jug 'breath' since I didn't' install a vent.

Tom I think you are wise in waiting to do the final cleaning and get your Aladdin up and going as those mantles are expensive.

With that said--I do hope you post some pics once it's home and running.

Again, Thanks for looking guys! :

Here's a question, Roy. Do these things stink-up the house? Too much heat for summertime?
Agreed, they seem very efficient. We ARE burning Kerosene. Ventilation?

I have heated many fish houses with the White Gas lanterns.

Other than Ice Fleas i have never thought about bugs dying and wrecking my mantle........

First and Foremost Please Remember That I'm the Sorccer's Apprentice. Benz is the Master.

With that said--Stink? NO! Very Mild Aroma-- a very small bit and it's actually (for me) pleasant.

To run in modern times in the summer heat--'Probably' too hot. With that said, in the colder times they could be a life saver!

Yes just like any kind of flame you need some ventilation.

Here's a link to show how much heat they can put out.

Well, those are a bit different, Tim.
    As to the bug screen..
The idea that a bug could actually fly/drop down in with the volume of upward hot air coming-up leads me to think this a way to sell Roy a fancy chimney-topper?
A bug got your mantle, Roy?
