Adding a slight left-turn to the thread, when I was teaching in the military, when I would have classes during the holidays, I would give the class an "existential Christmas present"...they would open it and find an empty box...they would say "It's nothing!" I would repsond "No, it's everything!" Those that laughed usually did better in the class.

Not surprisingly, I have found my view on the matter expressed most eloquntly by Thomas Jefferson:
“On the dogmas of religion, as distinguished from moral principles, all mankind, from the beginning of the world to this day, have been quarreling, fighting, burning and torturing one another, for abstractions unintelligible to themselves and to all others, and absolutely beyond the comprehension of the human mind.”

Perhaps my argument would carry more weight if I could spell "eloquently".......

Just a reminder
Just a friendly reminder,
Please remember to keep it friendly and respectful. Whatever your views please continue to try to keep it friendly. Other members have expressed valid concerns about the explosive nature of this topic and so far it appears everyone is making efforts to be respectful for the most part. Thank you all. This is greatly appreciated.

Hey Glenn,
while I enjoyed talking about the subject matter in this thread and the "Mans intelligence" thread, somewhere along the line the more important point, which I believe was proved out, became that we could actually act like mature adults instead of toddlers while discussing such topics!
After the 2nd amendment thread it seems everybody has been a little gun shy( pun intended) and with the explosive nature of the two threads I started, I would have to say unnecessarily so!
I think if we all police ourselves while speaking our minds there should be no problem! In other words, dont act like a jerk and these type of threads will go off without a problem!
