it is true that the U.S.S.R. was a communist, atheist nation, but before it became that, it had religion and therefore the basis of some of their laws. if you look at pictures from the U.S.S.R. you could see crosses on public buildings. i once asked about this and never did get a good answer why these symbols were not destroyed after the communist takeover..
once again i think i am in partly responsible for taking the thread astray. but i was asking in earnest where an atheist got their moral compass..

well then, if we're getting back on track.....

Why don't they let democracy take it's course, as long as voters are voting for policies and NOT for religious beliefs. Let the best candidate win.

I find it strange that the U.S., the "worlds leading democracy" still gets hung up on tripe like this. It seems more like tactics than a real issue.

And it's quite obvious those who continue to argue the "states right" mantra are not familiar with Marbury v Madisonor its progeny.
Everything I could say would be nonsense to you. Logic is hard to understand often. Beside you won't answer the questions because like others, you probably know what I am arriving at. But, I would love for you to try since you are clearly smarter than me. You have a modicum of education on constitutional law so answer the questions. I would like to educated by you answering the questions, but I know, you can't or won't because of something about energy?. Lets face it, what is the Supreme Court going to do if North Carolina blows them off? Nothing. Should the people of NC care about "Judicial Scrutiny" by the Supreme Court? NO, because the sacred court essentially can't do anything to them. Hence my point that NC should do what they want and laugh at the court. You also didn't answer any of the questions because like me you know its going to go away. I happen to know about Marbury V. Madison and also understand the articles of the constitution. You don't need a law degree to understand it since lawyers didn't write it. Lawyers and Judges have done more harm in society than any other particular group. They feel that they are the only ones with the ability to interpret law and thereby corrupt the law. Laws are written to be broken, hence why lawyers write laws with no coherence or rational thought behind them. Besides, a very mediocre student in college can get into law school, hence I personally turned down a pretty good one, but hey I just wanted to make an honest living. Only a good lawyer and get a confessed murderer off because the defendant was not Mirandized properly. That is real justice huh? Only a lawyer could come up with that kind of justice. I have always thought that judges in criminal courts should only have a formal education and common sense, not a law degree that biases them toward lawyers. Lawyers are the reason that there was no Tort reform in the healthcare bills, heaven forbid they go against corrupt ambulance chasing lawyers. Remember most Congressmen are lawyers and have to pay homage to lawyers first, themselves second, and then everyone else they can extort last.

Leave North Carolina alone please. It's a beautiful state and I want it to stay the way it is, Constitution and all unless the people there decide to change it. I need somewhere to go when I get back to the US from Mexico. Pleeeeeease?

Besides, you do what you want in New Jersey. Let the people of North Carolina do as they desire. Perhaps they don't want the highest taxes and unemployment in the union. Perhaps they want to choose their own leaders based on their requirements.
    Good Luck.

Its going to be ok, I haven't even seen the media cover this so it can't be that bad. Lets again all eat drink and be merry! It's seriously not personal with me, I could care less, but I would love someone to answer my questions from earlier.

Actually, not really. Before the commandments, the law was determined by the leaders and to the leaders tastes. Before the commandments, the law was not particularly well defined to my understanding.
I am probably wrong in this thoguh in all seriousness, but feel free if you can correct me using true, historical fact.
    Thanks

AHH, my friend, here we have a quandary. the U.S. is not a "democracy" as so many would have us to believe.. we are a "representative republic" and there is a big difference...read the comments of the founding fathers on the fallacy of being a "democracy"

i would only comment that the constitution of NC has stood a long, long time and has not been changed....i also submit that this "may" have never been an issue if the U.S. had not lost its moral compass as compared to earlier history, specifically to this topic only (please)

If I'm not mistaken you're making the assumption that an atheist has no moral compass ? I am wondering how you and others who assume that is fact come to that conclusion ? Have you personally known and conversed with atheists ? Have you had discussions on their beliefs and points of view ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Atheists Have no Morals. A presumptuous and incorrect Statement some one made earlier.
I've got a question for you all, but I'm going to answer it. It comes in two parts:
If you believe in a "God" Supreme being, lord almighty, whichever. And It commands you to Sacrifice and Kill your own child, and You say "No" and don't do it.... You're an Atheist.
And If you say "ok" and even consider doing it.... Stay away from me.
North Carolina is going to do whatever it wants. They have the right to. Even though it is unethical. Yes, it's unethical to force in anyway a Religion in a Secular forum, ie Government office.

no, i did not say they had no moral compass. i asked where it came from, that was not supposed to be my intent. sorry if it was taken that way. i have had talks with atheists and found it to say the least very interesting. most atheists and agnostic people have little to say to the question i pose to them all. i always ask them if i am right about there being a god and they are wrong what then? also most of the ones i talked to agreed that a lot of what is thought of as being "moral" came from some kind of "god" or "deity" and his or her teachings.(another interesting point)
