Thanked: 1185To quote Mr. Twain: "I have never wished a man dead but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."
Whatever personal or political spin your own beliefs demand of you, the fact of the matter is that this man was responsible for killing a whole bunch of innocent Americans on our own soil. Even if his death is only a symbolic victory, there is a feeling of justice. The fact of the matter is that this man could likely have lived to a ripe old age had he just hated us like so many others hate America, with over the top rhetoric. Even considering who he was, he was given ample opportunity to surrender. His replies came out the barrel of a gun. He was subsequently double tapped in the left side of his face and succumbed to a sudden overwhelming case of lead poisoning. The U.S. military even went to great lengths to ensure he was buried in keeping with Muslim traditons (which is a hell of a sight more respect than he gave his 3000+ victims on 11 Sept 01)The older I get, the better I was

UBL is dead. Like thousands of others I have made several deployments to the middle east since 2001. This is an extremely proud day for the United States and our military. Like others in our military I stand for what I believe and hold certain values very dear. Yes, the war goes on, but this is a milestone in a long journey that has been paid for in blood. I am not currently deployed, but I know what our service members are going through while they are away. This day and the next few days belong to them, and their efforts are worthy of respect and honor.
The Global War on Terror is not an abstract thought to me. I have seen deaths on both sides and know what they went through prior to their death. I was in Tikrit the day Saddam was captured and know how proud our country and our service members are. Thank you to my brothers and sisters in uniform (not just from the U.S.) who willingly put their lives on the line in order to keep others safe.Last edited by DCasper; 05-02-2011 at 10:10 PM.

Good point. This is why I see the value of bringing Nazi camp guard to justice, even if they're 90 years old. The way OBL was treated has given the US a large amount of credit AND a moral high ground. Politicans everywhere are commending the US and supporting them publicly.
Btw, his death is important also because it shows the people who really pull the terrorist strings than no amount of fame, money and protection is going to keep them safe. When you're playing chess, the pawns and pieces are not your main worry. It is the person moving the pieces who is important.
As long as he lived, he was a symbol. A quick, anonymous death with no glory or trace took down that symbol and didn't leave a new symbol in its place.Last edited by Bruno; 05-02-2011 at 09:49 PM.

Credit! What Credit? With who?
Politicians of the world ? Bruno you must be kidding me.
I want my "Credit" with the victim's families, not some Muslim politician. These animals that you are so readily available to appease, have butchered us for years, with little regard for our customs at the time of our deaths.
I don't want my son redeeming "Credit' from Muslim Fanatics.

1 down and a load more to go!!. For all those of you who say its over bring the boys home just remember its not over till the fat lady sings. The middle east is a mess and now its changing shape so play the game to the end because its not over yet. walk away now and you can have another 9/11 in a few years down the line. Its hard to understand that al Qaeda is not an organisation like the nazis but a way of thinking and this is what we are fighting so we need to get a lot of people in the middle east to reject this way of thinking and that means education some times you have to use different weapons to win.
Well done US Special forces it looks like the OP ran like a Swiss watch and they did not have to use their cover story either. You know the one about search and rescue team removing the dead body from the crashed helicopter that got lost
USA 1 Al Qaeda 0

I am pleased he is dead and his body disposed of where it cannot become a focal point. His death will not end the war on terror, but it does show that these people are all within reach of the coalition and can be dealt with in time.
Congratulations to your President for making this a priority and congratulations to the US military and intelligence agencies for executing his will. I do understand why this was a most secrective in house action for obvious reasons.
I am sure Pakistan was aware of him, but that country is on the verge of collapse so no surprise there.
I do not know how long this war will last, but all wars do end eventually, take heart , for example the long terrorist action in Northern Ireland did finally end when both sides decided enough.
Kind regards

Heelerau, you are right, this has been a long war for both our countries. People are tired and it will be nice when this war is finally over. Do you know the three things a Soldier never wants to hear?
1. You never want to hear a Private say, "But my Drill Sergeant said..."
2. You never want to hear a 2nd Lieutenant start a sentence with, "Well, based on my experience..."
3. You never want to be on a British or Australian helicoptor and hear the pilot say, "Would you like to see something really cool?"
