So, fellow Aussie buyers and deal hunters, I have a request. Christmas is just down the road and my brother is on the bad end of puberty. I thought maybe a nice DE Razor would be perfect.

Does anyone know where I could possibly get a nice, cheap, little DE pack with razors, soap and possibly a brush? Possibly locally too. Thanks.

Mensbiz.com or Himage.com. Both are aussie online shops, both have a nice selection of DE's and blade sample packs, soaps, creams and brushes.

+1 to Himage. Excellent service and free postage. There brushes aren't cheap though. They have a great range of DEs at pretty good prices. I bought me Merkur 12c from them, nice shaver particularly with the Feather blades. I have just ordered some Ugli Soap from "Nervin" at very good prices. Might be worth a shot.

Thanks Mick, but I was more after a local seller that does up older DEs. While the Merkur razors are not bad, I would rather my brother get to grips with some older blades. Plus, kinda looking to spend under $40.

I noticed in the therazorshop.com that they have these very cheap Comoy:

Does anyone think these are worth it for a first-timer?

No worries mate. I can't help with that. I don't know of anyone. If I hear of someone I'll post it here.

My first DE was a comoy from the local barber shop. They are pretty much all the smaller barber shops sell these days. You can definitely get a decent shave out of them, but they are cheap and you get what you pay for. A beginner would definitely do alright with one.

An interesting find in Chemist Warehouse yesterday
Browsing the shaving stuff shelves as I do
Found a relatively inexpensive shave soap there
In a nice metal container about 145 grams

It is called Windsor Shave Soap and I paid $8.95 for it.
Tried it out at home and seems to lather OK on its own
Trying it without any additives for now
I had some trouble with getting the lather right
I am using a Badger brush
Tried making lather in my shave bowl,
Put on my face & it seemed to dry out a fair bit
Couldn't seem to get moisture balance right

So I tried face lathering with it
Had to work it for a couple of minutes
    Lather holding up much better

So I naturally had to have a shave then
Shave was OK but again lather was drying out
So I kept re-lathering during second and third passes

    The learning process continues today

    Cheers for now

    Rick

I know this an old thread, but:
    (a) I want to be able to find it again now that MickR reminded me of it's existence, and
    (b) does anyone use Fauldings shave cream for SR shaving? I've used it for years but got all hoity toity when I started SR shaving, preferring 'European' creams (German, English, Portuguese, Spanish, etc). I guess, really, considering it costs f all, I may as well just get some again, hey?

I always have a tube in my draw. I use it for making Uber-lathers with other soaps.
