I use it sometimes, and also the Palmolive tube.. Cheap enough to have one in every bathroom.
Speaking of Aussie vendors I've had some great dealings with 'the shave shed' recently.
I felt the pain at mr shave buying some proraso (in a hurry). Big range, even bigger prices now! $20 for 10 DE blades :O no thanks..
I also found an amazing variety of Edwin jagger gear at the shaver shop chain. Didn't check the prices but they had a lot of different brushes, DE's, etc (as well as some Dovo straights and Merkur DE's)..
If anyone could point me in the direction of a shop/barber to fix my stropping in Perth I'll buy them a tube of Fauldings :P cannot get close to a shave with my Dovo atm

Thanked: 983Perhaps there are other members from Perth that will be able to assist you with your stropping technique. I only know of Kalgoorlieboi over there, but that's not much help as he is in Kalgoorlie.

Thanked: 1587I ran into a shop in the main mall area of Perth last time I was there - sorry I cannot be more specific. The shop sold straights and other shaving gear, and the proprietor purported to hone straights, though I was not allowed to touch any of the razors so I cannot vouch for how well he did/does it. Perhaps if you could find his shop you could see if he can help with the stropping. The shop was in an arcade off the main mall/street.
Otherwise there are quite a few excellent stropping videos here. AFDavis11's latest one springs to mind, though there are others as well.

If that is the price of DE blades in OZ at the moment I will have to buy up a heap of different brands over there in Bangkok and send them over. Just yesterday I bought two ten packs of Feather DE blades for 60 baht. That's about two AUD. If anyone wants some, let me know and we can work something out.

Thanks for the offer mate, I've got a couple of hundred stockpiled (got them cheap) to get through first..
I think it's mainly just that shop, but it borders on criminal I think.

Thanked: 983We can get them quite cheaply here, through online Austrlailian sites like Himage and Mensbiz.com. They sell in bulk, and have a variety of choices. I think Feathers come in around $45 for 100 and they're the dearest ones to buy. Probably not as cheap as what they are in Thailand, but that's the world market for you. The same thing costs more or less depending on the perceived wealth of the people in that area.

Thanked: 983So I was in the big smoke today...Right in the middle of it, rather than the fringes. Went into 'The myer centre' and came across a Shaver Shop. Spent about an hour there giving the bloke tuition on cut-throats so that they can at least pass something on to the "growing numbers of wives and men", who are, "buying quite a few cut-throats of late. Perhaps the wives are hopeful the husbands will." Shop assist laughs, until he realises I'm not sharing the joke. Gave them the advice to find a good honer as factory edges are no good, spoke about blade angle and how to use the spine of the razor as a guide to getting close to a correct angle for shaving WTG, and a flatter angle for ATG. How long roughly it would take a beginner to learn how to shave with little to no guideance (personal experience), how much better it is to get guidence from a place like SRP and don't do it the hard way like me if you don't have too. All sorts of stuff really. I walked out of there feeling like I've done my good deed for the day anyway.

Good on ya Mick.
Last time I was at Shaver Shop I went to buy ceramic hair clippers 'cause I'm too lazy to oil the regular ones. The guy warned me I should oil them any way. I wonder if they oil the Dovos they have on display after they get handled. Never thought to mention it.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 983The half dozen Dovos they had on display were virtually dripping with oil from what I could see in this shop. I don't know if those had been handled however. I didn't bother having a close look.
