That may be left-handed threads on one side or was done installing.
Yup. Were no Chinese stamped steel sockets that are close enough back then. No loctite either!
That and/or a pipe wrench.
Done it. Will do it again!

Looks like you could clean it up but after you have gone this far I would replace them if not cost prohibitive.

Cost prohibitive? What's that?
A vise and a 4 inch sander. Maybe a dab of the MIG welder?
As long as the threads are good. Done!
I fix too much stuff and come out ahead sometimes!Last edited by sharptonn; 12-09-2020 at 02:47 AM.

I don't know what these cost but if they are $10 replace them.
But if they are $100 fix them.

Thanked: 4206The nuts are handed back then as far as I can tell so yup, going to try to remove them.
I have a few wrenches to try and will be buying new nuts now it looks like. Might as well do the bearings etc.. another Hun spent,,,,
The shoes don’t look bad, wear wise, but after being soaked in oil for some time, can’t trust the liners anymore.
Sure glad I didn’t say I was done ordering stuff,,
That hun is for new shoes bearings seals and nuts for both sides..Last edited by MikeB52; 12-09-2020 at 03:04 AM.

Thanked: 4206Lol,, yea that’s me,, rich,, not..
I’m reusing, or replacing with modern where I can on this resto mod.
But the lead times a killer if I don’t bundle these orders up and find if I do need smaller items later I pay way more in shipping..
These hub nuts themselves are 10$ each and for the uniqueness and increasing difficulty of finding Austin Cambridge parts, which are similar but not exactly like the mga or tr3,, critical items so I have no qualms going new.
My rear end was from the above car and I’ve had a hell of a time finding the right parts for the rear end.
Hubs stuff, brake stuff, steering stuff, and engine mounts are all mandatorily oem still and always will be I think.
The rest is fair game, hehe."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4206Tried to clean up the flats some and ended up ordering a new socket.
With the wheel studs in the way I couldn’t get enough grab to make a difference with my big adjustable.
1 61/64 is like 1.953 inches, so none of my existing imperial stuff up to 2” will work.
So I ordered a 50mm 12 point socket. That works out to 1.963 inches as an equivalent..
In theory I should be able to grab 4 of the 8 points of the bolt and undo them, as long as I have 4 good corners.
The new bearings will be ordered sealed, which will help in the future keep the oil where it belongs.
Few other little items ordered before the holiday push is on.
Cheers gents."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Dammitt. Mike!
All you needed was a hammer and a screwdriver! GEEZE...Eh?
I gave up on the British shit a long while back with exception of the uber-fine threads.
Depending, run a close standard or metric tap/die in. Light pull. Heli-coil? get it on.Last edited by sharptonn; 12-11-2020 at 04:34 AM.

Thanked: 4206I’m with ya Tom on going to NA standard where I can. Can’t here though.
I did try the hammer&screwdriver on the existing damaged areas but the nut wasn’t going anywhere.
Hell, for me part of this trip is about besting all these little challenges with thinking and patience.
And if I want to give the socket a chance I can’t mangle any new flats with a screwdriver till I try.
