    Tom speaks the truth.........
I was alluding to the u-joints, diff pinion seal, cleaning and painting which would come along with it! Guess you should polish-up the rusty yoke. Likely why the seal is bad.

Or not! It never ends, Mike. Like my old Triumph motorcycle!

Just got home from a swanky overnight affair in the big smoke. Good times and open bar.

Appreciate the breakdown on the rear shaft job. Was hoping it would be that straight forward.
Will polish and redetail everything as I go along on this project.
Not to enter into concourse or anything. That ship sailed when the conversion to the triumph was completed in the early 70s. More Just to optimize the reliability and pleasure of the ride.
As I learn more and set immeadiate and next winter priorities I will have to constantly remind myself of that fact. Hehe.
The rabbit hole this project could become is not lost on me. Part of the fun really.

Rear brakes back together once more, front brakes as well. Just need to repack my bearings while I’m here. Then test the brake switch before I refill the brake fluid and bleed.
Also got the e brake back in good nick. Neat system, where you press the button on the e brake to lock the brake. Otherwise it’s just a drift brake I suppose, lol.
    Cheers..

Sounds like you are making some good solid progress.

When you write about the 'e' brake it brings to mind George Carlin's bit about how 'wording' had changed and no one had consulted him.

Things like; how the 'Emergency Brake' had become the 'Parking Brake'. How 'Toilet Paper' had become 'Bath Tissue'.

Keep up the good work! I for one enjoy seeing a job being done right.

As I get closer to the test drive I have started sitting in the drivers seat and checking fit there as well.
Was very tight till I freed up the back and seat mechanisms some. Then I learned the car has telescopic steering, of a sort, and got that working again. Very cool. Now I have leg room. So while up on stands still I started her up and actually played between first and second gears. Speedo works, if a little jumpy at the low speeds.
    But peddle placement!!

Clearly used the triumph clutch and brake systems, complete to peddles. But the accelerator.? WTF were they thinking there..
Sure I can hit the gas easy enough, but not the brake, without still hitting the gas.

Think this will require some metal removal. Maybe bling up the foot pad contact point as I lose the entire bottom half of that home made thing..maybe start right from scratch as it seems easy enough to remove.
    Cheers gents..

Makes one wonder if people had smaller feet and bodies back then.

That looks like it might be setup to do the so called, "double toe" type clutching, they are so close together so one foot, or the toe of your foot, can hit them quickly....do some Googling, but the drivers almost wear a ballet type driving shoe just do they can tap these pedals so close together....seen them like that on a few cars...no boots or big shoes to drive that puppy.....:-)

Seems to me the MG-TF of my neighbor in the 50's had a roller on a stick as the throttle pedal.
    YMMV

I believe that was the original design Richard. Saw a vid on u tube of a 51 an that’s what he had as well.
I’m thinking octagon shaped MG emblazoned peddle, if I’m going to the trouble to fab a new one.

New issue discover as I reinstalled my front drums.
Hard to see but the right stub threads were fouled and the nut is near stripped away.

Need to order a new nut, 5/8-14 British standard fine thread. Cleaned up the stub best I could and the nut grabs now, upside down, as in castalations to the drum, but then I can’t install the cotter pin and who wants to drive around like that?
Not this guy, hehe. Come out of a hard left turn and ruin my day one day,, no thanks.
Note in the picture the needle fitting hump on the washer to allow greasing of the bearings routinely.
Years before maintenance free everything, we did maintenance on cars. This car is riddled with grease fittings..

So another order pending for Moss motors and another delay in getting her on the road.
But at least I can bleed and grease everything now that the drums are all on.
Maybe repull the carbs and replace the jets and all. Idle is not steady and lots of hunting under steady load.
