I never understood how kilts could have become so popular in a country which is infected by midges in the summer.

[quote=sidneykidney;227675]IMHO Makar looks a bit..... well..... pervy in that picture.

    Sorry Stephen

I was trying the romantic look but I get your drift Sandy - it was my wedding day so...
That's my formal kilt look - dark red velvet sherrifmuir jacket with jabot and cuffs and the plaid over the shoulder. When it's other folks weddings etc. I wear something a little less formal as I would show up the groom who is inevitably wearing one of those awful prince charlie jackets - the penquin look (miiaaoww). Frightfully common...

Have to tell this one. Took a couple of Dutch mates into the Cairngorms (north east mountain range) for three days hiking a few years back. The wind was blowing fairly strongly (midges hate the wind or strong sun) and I mentioned that the wind was good as it would keep the horrible little blood sucking midges at bay. Ten minutes passed and my mate Ron said "midges - you mean the little people?" I laughed for three days. On the third day the wind dropped and the midges slaughtered us!

Can't say as I've been bitten more than a couple of times a year in the last 15 years. Down there or anywhere else.

My grandfather, who wore a cilt more days than he didn't & lived in the mountains of Snowdonia, would have told you they were character building. When, cilt clad, I was working with him, I was rarely, if ever, bitten anywhere. Then again, my blood is known to be instantly toxic to any bug the world over. Spent a year in India when I was much younger & only ever had one or two nips

Silver, on the other hand, tells tales of going after clouds of midges with a gas lighter & an aerosol....

Its actually a little known fact that midges are more likely to go after women than men. Apparently they find the blood sweeter or something. Fact.

Fortunate then that the kilt attracts the ladies the way it does!

ok...so i think i want a kilt...which one should i get? I was thinking Black Jean Cut from utilikilts.com, mostly because of cost...I noticed that alot of the guys in the pics are stocky and big, I am actually very thin and weak lookin...could i pull off a kilt? Also i have waist length straight black hair, would i look too much like a girl?
