I would pay to have my dogs kill squirrels. Unfortunately the Ridgeback had no interest in it and the jack russell is too fat to catch them. Only thing I HATE more than a roach is a squirrel.

I have eaten squirrel but I don't eat the urban ones for the same reason I won't eat the fish from our neighborhood pond. All the chemicals people put on their lawns and around their houses kinda make me apprehensive about that. Also, they get these nodes on them during the summer. It's some kind of parasite that gets under the skin and on top of the muscle. Last one I skinned had those all over it and it really grossed me out. I haven't eaten one since.

My wife with our new baby/shelter dog Cooper (who almost went back to the shelter this week after starting fights with the other dog a couple of times-we are in emergency training mode working on this). Besides the fighting, he is the most cuddly, loving dog I have ever owned.
That said, even at only 40-ish pounds, he is a total hood-rat shelter dog who ain't skeered, and will take on all comers who dare even show a fang. I'm hoping he'll mellow out. Neighborhood walks are interesting in the mean-time...There are many roads to sharp.

Today's early morning play time picture. Didn't catch Finny in this one although I thought I did. I think he's behind Sebastian, the medium sized one. All 4 pounds of Finny can disappear behind even him let alone the 120 lb ridgeback
While it's puppy nap time Max and Sebastian have a big boy's rest in the sun to contemplate the universe.

Travis had his free checkup today and got a great review.
I had a couple of concerns and one was that every once in awhile his turds aren't 'logs' but more of a pile so the vet gave me some capsules of Proviable-Forte Probiotic to give him daily to see if it will help/which the Vet was confident it at least wouldn't hurt.
So I figure, OK, I'll see what I can buy these for online for as I was sure it had to be less expensive. While I found the same thing from the same maker at half the cost at all of the online sites, those capsules had 1/2 of the amount of healthy bacteria than what the vet gave me and I'd have to give Travis 2 instead of 1. So they cost the same. So much for doing my own thinking.
While the Human Society had De-Wormed Travis the vet gave me a vial to put some of his turds in so she could check it for parasites that might be causing the loose turds. Oh Joy! While the sight of Blood and Guts doesn't bother me the smell of Dog S**t gags me something fierce.
They had this sign on their wall and I just had to dig out the flip phone and take a pic--

Roy, that sign is absolutely true. I am near the beginning of my third year with Sir Cat Baron and we are at what amounts to a standoff. We each win 50% of the time and, admittedly, he might have a slight edge. He has an unerring ability to know when I am concentrating on something to start demanding food. He will back down 40% of the time when I say, "Out" to him and he leaves the room. That is good for 10 minutes before it starts again. But at the end of the day, he does remind me when it is bedtime because he does like to snuggle for the night. So, we both win at the end of the day (followed by a most determined wake-up attempt at 4 AM.)

Travis and I have developed a pretty steady nighttime routine.
I get in bed, turn off the lights then he launches himself on me then after making sure that he's stepped on every 'sensitive part' of me he lays down next to me and 90% of the time with his head at my feet.
Then in the middle of the night he wakes me up to remind me that he's not the only one who needs to pee and poo so I let him out to do his duty and I do mine and then we head back to bed. However his dog bed is at the foot of my bed and he will usually lay down there until he again wakes up and decides that he's done sleeping and pesters me from the side of the bed. So I open the bedroom door and out he goes and I head back to bed.
An hour or two later he will once again launch himself on me with loves, kisses and whatever else he can think of to let me know that it's time for breakfast and me to get up and going.
After being without a canine buddy for all these years it has been quite an adjustment but one I'm truly enjoying. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
