Again, their weapons are top of the line, but I can find a more realistic cost effective solution to Wilson combat. Many of you are going to think that I'm an idiot, but I'll put my Kimber Ultra CDPII 1911 up against any Wilson Combat and will go toe toe with them. The weapon is only half the equation. The shooter is the other half of the equation.

    However, nice private range there!
I will never know how they match up. I don’t see myself being able to afford the comparison. I’ve got my Sig and my HK. Go with what you got. And I’m not complaining.

Been working on my Winchester model 94 to customize it for my needs. It's actually a Ted Williams model 100 from Sears & Roebuck. However, it was in fact manufactured by Winchester in 1971 as far as I can tell. Serial numbers weren't important to Sears back then. The Winchester site did verify the year it was produced. So here it is ready to go hog hunting this fall. I don't typically hunt innocent little animals, but my good friend owns a ranch just south of here and he's at wits end. They are tearing up his land and crops. We have tried everything to control them and nothing seems to work. We don't use poison (that's a horrible way to die) not to mention the cattle could get into it. So, this seems to be the only solution.

Being from Texas and admiring the Texas Rangers (not baseball team), the real Rangers, I had to put a Texas Ranger Badge in the stock. A lot of Texas Rangers carried a Model 94 as a service rifle back in the day

The second and final modification was to replace the front sight post with a fiber optic sight. Old eyes can't see that well. Then added a butt stock cartridge holder from leather. I personally made this to fit this stock. Then added a nice leather sling that I made from leather. I hand carved and tooled the sling myself.

The way I look at it a firearm is a tool. It works reliably and is accurate and I'm happy.

You're a competition shooter or you want a display piece or are a collector? That's a different story and you pay the big bucks.

The basic darn things cost enough for what they are.

Pretty nice pieces, gents. Also an admirer of firearms. I have been shooting most my life and an avid reloader / casting.

You're lucky it's not 25-20 like my Model 92. $2.00+/round seems expensive but you gladly pay it IF you can find it. Chambering a round sounds like ringing a cash register. "POW! Cha-ching. POW! Cha-ching..."

Think if I'm gonna play with hogs, I'd be packing my 300 Win mag. Tough buggers they are.

Those getting gas checks, or are they just light target loads. I've filled the rifling with lead, using those before.

Non-gas checked, no leading. I slug my all barrels that are shooting lead. Only gun I had leading with, brand new Super Redhawk .44 Mag. The cylinder throats were all different diameters and Ruger had smoked the barrel down hard enough to create a restriction at the frame and barrel junction. Really bad gas cutting resulting in leading, bullet was being sized down passing through restriction.

A good lube or tumble lube helps immensely. I’m moving toward the powder coat route to save time and less mess. Some calibers, you’ll probably be stuck gas checking.
