Made my first ever hand loaded rounds today for the .308.

145gn BTFMJ PPU in lapua cases with RL15. I could not find any load data for that bullet so took the powder manufacturers 150gn HPBT and dropped it ~10% to work up, so ended up with 44.2gn + or - 0.05, hopefully that's enough to put it down range

Totally a starting point for me so will see how it is on Friday afternoon.

I have never owned a .308 winchester that would shoot accurately with a load lighter than 168gr. My pet is 178gr amax.

I was shooting 145gr factory loads that were doing ok, hence why I went for 145gr bullets, I have 99 to use up then I was going to move up to 155gr as I have been using those lately and was happier.

Eventually I'll get a sweet spot.

Had a good day at the range today.

    I loaded 20 rounds with 44gn and 20 with 45gn of RL15.

Learned some things, my rifle doesn't chamber rounds at the top end of the OAL, and I can group 145gr bullets acceptably.

The pics are at 100m I only had 2 of the 44gn that would chamber, but they weren't for grouping, the 45gn grouped much better, think I might work up some more of those as a 100m indoor round.

Decided to indulge myself, the 4x on my 1022 wasn't really cutting it out to 100m for me, su upgraded to this bushnell banner2.

Hopefully get to the range on Saturday and get it zeroed in properly.

Just got back from the range. A few weeks ago my Wilson CQB Commander had the gold bead front sight fly off while shooting it. Not the whole sight but just the gold bead rod flew away. I called Wilson Combat and they said to send it in and they would fix it. Didn’t want to send it in and they said that they would send me a new gold bead rod. They did so immediately but I’ve been terribly busy and just reinstalled it yesterday morning.

Took it out today and shot drills on three steel silhouette targets @ ten yards and then finished of with 30 rounds at an 8” steel target @ 25 yards for a total of 300 rounds.

Gold bead was fine and the private range that I go to most was totally void of anyone else. A great day and the gold bead is still in the sight.

Don't get me wrong, but I think Wilson Combat is way overpriced. They do produce one of the finest 1911's out there, but for the money, I just can't substantiate spending that kind of money for a name. Again, their weapons are top of the line, but I can find a more realistic cost effective solution to Wilson combat. Many of you are going to think that I'm an idiot, but I'll put my Kimber Ultra CDPII 1911 up against any Wilson Combat and will go toe toe with them. The weapon is only half the equation. The shooter is the other half of the equation.

    However, nice private range there!
    Semper Fi !
