This weeks been a hell of a week, so I went to the range today with some of my .22s and proceeded to just chuck some lead downrange to let of some steam. It's surprisingly therapeutic

I also zeroed the scope on my 10/22 so I did achieve something

Let me introduce you to my little friend! I got this two weeks ago as a gift from my Marine Corps buddies. I have never been at a loss for words, but I was that day. What does one say to gift of such magnitude except Thank You and accept it gracefully. I was, and still am, very humbled by this act of friendship. It is a 1927A1 Thompson semi auto carbine made by the Auto Ordinance Corp. Here are some pictures:

Here it is in the Tommy Gun or Chicago Typewriter configuration with the 50rd drum

Here it is configured in the 1944 adaptation with the 20rd stick mag. The Marines used this weapon effectively in the island hopping campaign during WWII.

    Wonderfull gift!

I see the fore stock is different. Hard to see in the pictures if the barrel is the same.

Do the 20 and 50 round mags interchange?

Everything is the same. This weapon can be configured to a military rifle as well as the infamous Tommy Gun style rifle. Just change out parts. The barrel is the same in both configurations. Magazines are interchangeable as well. Even tough this is a semi auto version, it will still put the rounds down range fast! I was surprised how heavy it was. It was 13lbs unloaded. A drum full of 50rds brings it to 19.5lbs. A stick mag of 30rds brings it to about 17lbs. It's heavy! But it is very accurate at 20yds. A nice rifle that I have always been wanting in the collection for about 40 years now.

Also, it cannot be converted into a fully automatic weapon. The receivers are shorter in height of about a 1/4" so the auto sear will physically not fit into this weapon. You know what though, that's just fine by me. This thing will probably sit in my safe and not see the light of day very often. Of course we'll shoot it but just probably on Nov. 10th each year. That's the Marine Corps birthday.

No it's not. I used to work in firearms training while on the job and some of the things I saw at the range.....well it wasn't pretty.

I like to think of myself as budget shooting guy, that started with buying guns that might need a bit of work. I got looking at magazines for my tikka, and decided I'd see how printing one would go.

All in this probably cost me a out £1.50 in plastic and if I hadn't had an old spring from a 1911 magazine would probably have cost about another £5
