Yeah, I have apple care. But according to Apple, the hinge didn't break because of a defect, it broke as a result of improper use. I Googled the hinge problem and it turns out a lot of folks got rejected for claims of a defective hinge. I think the real problem is that the hinge is a lot less sturdy than the MBP version. Plus, since its so light it encourages you to handle it a little rougher than it can stand. I don't think they thought that part through all the way...
Unrelated, we had a problem with the battery as well which was covered under the warranty so they replaced it with a new battery on the spot for free. So that was cool.

Thanked: 227I have to admit I don't like the price to hardware ratio of macs. I could buy a better spec laptop for less and use my trusty linux, but for ease of use out the box you can't fault em. What they do they do well, not like winblows lol.

I switched to mac about two years ago... I probably will not go back, but I don't do anything that a mac isn't suited for.

I have a MacBook 13" as well. But I am currently switching over to Linux. Reason: cost. I want a desktop because I am tired of looking at a 13" screen. I cannot justify spending $2600 on a Mac desktop. But they are awesome though!

Thanked: 2I have a macbook. It's fine, it does everything I need. I've been using it for close to a year now. However, I found my windows machines to be slightly more intuitive for the way my brain works. So while I don't have anything against my Mac, the price doesn't justify me purchasing another one. So when it comes time to purchase another computer, I will likely make the switch back to Windows.

Well, Windows 7 is supposed to be light years ahead of the others
(MS, that is), but I'm still a mac convert for life. (Except for games--I can just build a bare-bones PC for those--pretty cheap).
UPDATE: got an iPod Touch for Xmas--& subsequently replaced my PalmPilot with it--does everything the old unit did (PDA functions, mainly) loads better! No more stylus!
DISCLAIMER: the above was fueled by a liberal dose of New Year's Veuve Cliquot! Viva Le France!

Thanked: 43I'm a long time Mac user, even back in the dark days of the 90's when Apple was supposed to go under any day.
I've also heard the argument of the cost of Mac's hardware. Yet, back then and now, you configure the computers comparatively you wind up pay just a little more for the Mac. They don't offer as many options, but the hardware they do offer is not so over priced when you compare oranges to oranges.
I just priced an Alienware computer similarly configured and it was 4500 dollars vs. 3600 for the MacPro so sometimes they can be cheaper. But they are different machines for different purposes.
The extra I pay for the computer is fine since I have a machine that I can do my work and play on without the hiccups I get with Windows.
Windows 7? Ha!! I love how Microsoft's big selling point is the fact they finally have something that doesn't suck as hard as every other creation coming out of their company. Those commercials crack me up.

We've got a Mini at home that I bought and set up in the summer of 2005. At work we use PCs, partly because my department has to use a software package that's set up for Windows only. I prefer the Mac but I think the BW would rather I had bought a PC, so I don't know which way we'll go next time.
In my estimation the Mac and its OS are far superior--for one thing, I've spent zero, as in 0, dollars and an equal amount of hours dealing with viruses, and I don't think a 4 1/2-year-old PC with 512 MB of memory would be functioning too well right now. (Doesn't Windows 7 need at least 128 GB RAM plus 600 TB of hard-drive space? Or is my estimate exaggerated--a little? ) Plus my favorite browser, Opera, plays nice with Mac OS, but the latest versions crash constantly on the PC.
All isn't completely hunky-dory. I wish my Mac had the little Alt-keypad keystroke sequences for diacritics and special characters, and saving to and manipulating files comes more natural to me in Windows. And the Mini is starting to get slow and have the occasional kernel panic, so I'm going to have to work on those issues. But it's still a much better machine for my purposes.

Started with an iMac Blueberry... lol and while I was using that I had numerous PC's. A Compaq desktop and Dell desktop... both bit the dust. Laptops... whew.. here we go... 3 Dells, a Compaq, a Toshiba and an Acer I gave to my mom that she uses still and a Sony Vaio that is still alive.
My PowerBook 13" I have had on and running almost 6 years now without a hitch. I did replace the HD for a larger one but that is. I also have a 20" iMac that is 2 years old in the bedroom. Thats the workhorse. We burn all our movies and music on it and sync them to the 2 Apple TV's we have. About 2 Terabytes of media on external HD's lol.
I can't say enough about Apple and how well the products I have bought from them over the years have held up and continued to work well !!!
Ohhh.. and my girlfriend just got a MacBook about 10 months ago and I dont think she will ever let anyone touch it much less use it.
And we have iPhones as well .. and you can forget about ever seeing us gwt rid of those... nothing compares and nothing will replace them for a good long time !
