I didn't wait to order that Briar bowl, I did it last night with an Ebony stain.

Anyway, any suggestions for suitable tobacco for a novice to try out? Obviously everyone has different tastes but I've read that the following should be suitable to start off with:

    - Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe
    - Mac Baren - Seven Seas
    - Lane Limited - 1Q
lz6, Steel and apipeguy like this.

Those look like some good ones to start with. I would also suggest Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake. It is a great VaPer and is sold in bulk plus it gives you a chance to play with some Flake tobacco.

Maybe we should start a new thread?

    Default Another Beautiful Day

A GBD that I got from Bob. An amazing pipe. It somehow imparts a "floral " essence to the smoke. I really like this pipe.

    Tobacco: House Blend

    Red & Bright Virginias
    Dark Kentucky and
    Perique

A smooth/sweet full flavor smoke with a healthy Nicotine kick.

Have a great evening men and thank you for looking.

About 93 degrees here today so I thought I might as well enjoy some Fire Storm in my Castello Sea Rock. Good stuff.

Another beautiful pipe Bob!! The carving on those sea rock pipes are amazing. What is the story of the blade on top of, what appears to be, a translucent Arkansas stone?

A GBD I bought at a flea market around 1980. The rim was burned severely so I sanded it down till smooth.

It is a GBD New Standard Pot #789. A great pipe.

    I apologize for the

The knife is a Japanese kiridashi. The word can mean numerous kinds of knives in Japanese. This particular one is a model used by Japanese woodworkers. A friend of mine here in town builds Japanese style clothing dressers. He only works with Japanese hand tools and is hardcore about it. His work, unaffordable for folks like me, is heart stopping. In any event one of the primary uses of this style kiridashi allows for joint clean up and scribing lines for cutting, etc. This blade was made by a blacksmith in Japan. It is interesting as the blade is flat on one side and has a bevel on the opposite side. This allows for a near invisible scribe cut on the wood and the knife is also used to clean corner cuts, do carving, etc. I enjoy sharpening these, it is a slow smooth process to get everything exact and I have found that the hardest Arkansas stone works perfectly for me, anyway. I can sit and relax and while honing and enjoy my pipe or a cigar. I always just hone these knives holding the stone in my hand.

I'm about to go outside with the Dinky basket briar full of McClelland Black Woods Flake with a pint of Yeungling. Gonna sit on the swing with the wife.
