I picked up the tobacco pipe recently and have been buying bulk from an online purveyor. Does anyone have some recommendations for blends to try out? Those that are affordable would be my preference.

My last order was a Dunhill (vanilla Cavendish) that is very nice, smooth blend, but I like varieties too (and can handle drinking straight espressos), so nothing is off the table here. Give me some of your recommendations, fellas. Thanks in advance!

What did you do Jimmy? He looks like he is simply, "Not amused..."? Or is it just the usual feline disdain.

    Nice pipe by the way.....
He is probably wondering why I'm putting my junk on his table ........ master of the house since July 4th weekend of '06. Lets me stay here as long as I meet his needs.

The bulk I smoke more than any is Dunhill Early Morning Pipe. Besides that mainly GL Pease Robusto if you like cigar leaf (tin), Gawith & Hoggarth Rum Flake, Coniston Cut Plug, and Bob's Chocolate Flake (all bulk). Some Samuel Gawith Full VA Flake once in a blue moon. I don't know if you would like any, but that is what I habitually burn around here.

If you go to smokingpipes.com, order 4oz of EMP, Nightcap, and 965. That is what I would suggest. Bulk of course. All first rate. Other guys will be along with their recommendations.

I must be reading your mind, Jimmy, as I was already planning to grab 965 and Nightcap in addition to your EMP recommendation.

Some Haunted Bookshop in a Castello Collection Fiamatta, probably my all time favorite pipe.

After about 8-months of struggling with some and at times a lot of inhaling through my dad's health issues and death, I think I'm finally back on track. Have had to just set it to the side and not smoke at all for weeks at a time.

Tobacco tastes so much better if you don't inhale at all and one inhaled puff seems to screw up the taste buds for a couple days.

Also..Escudo and Dunhill Navy Rolls ..very good stuff. For a beginner, you can't beat the Virginia called McCrannies Red Ribbon...all of these have no additives..just good Virginia and Perique....I don't care for additives like cherry or Vanilla etc mixed with baccy.

Tried my first bowl of SG Brown No. 4. It burned good and tasted good.

I need to work it a little more as I don't think I got a good rub. IMHO, the HG Bogie may be stronger than the SG Brown No. 4.

I need to do a few more of the Brown No. 4 before making a choice.
