Would that be Tom Eltang ? I had some of his pipes years ago, including a 'lady's leg.' Should never have sold them.

Yes i try the Eltang glden contrast, without the harmfull chemicals Aniline and Coper chloride I use 2 diferent kind of dues and everything in the 6 or 7 stage dueing must be very precize and very even
After the staining , a long and very precize ,fine sanding and buffing like a berserker ,to hit a sweet spot in the coloring and contrast A long buffing and looking to make everything even .
Once you oversand of overbuff the effect at just only 1 place everything goes to hell - you loose it on this pipe forever
You cannot go back and do it again .
So it is a real chalenge and as you see, the ordinary dues , doesnt have the penetration and saturation of the chemicals and 3 of the pipes are overpassed the so called sweet spot
This means that in only 3 or them the effect is very close to the original hahaha
The rest are weaker in collor and saturation .
Even for man that work this it is hard to achieve , as they say in the Pipemagazine the Golden contrast is a 20 % dueing or staining , and 80 Tom work
    They are very right

When you read the NRA's RSO manual you will find that under alternative commands.

The first Castello 75 lovat I ever bought. A pipe shop in Edgewater NJ back in the late '80s or early '90s. The guy called it a 'lumberman' and I had never seen anything like it. A pipe with a 4" shank from bowl to stem. I kept going back every week half hoping someone else bought it so I didn't have to spend the $ and finally, fearing that someone else would buy it, I went for it. Never regretted it.
