Thanks for telling about that Nimrod. I have never seen such lighter before. Obviously very rare here. It looks very functional, sort of a no-nonsense lighter. Very nice piece of history. Nice pic too. I find these old tobacco etc ads very amusing. They reflect the culture of their times although nowadays they look more funny to us.
These brass lighters are known as a trench lighters here. Those have been said to be common during WW1 but nobody knows fur sure. Might be just legend as well. Mine is flea market catch.
I have few Zippos and they are the only ones i've bought as new. I do not actually collect lighters, but sometimes when i see some old beauty, abandoned in a flea market or estate sales, ready to follow anyone who's willing to pay a dime or two, i just have no heart to leave it there. Back home i check if i can bring it back to life it was once meant to. Or at least save for spares. Just like old razors and many other vintage stuff, these were sometimes very important and essential pieces to their owners until new technology took over and made them old fashioned and useless.
Mine aren't rarities or expensive, just some everyday pieces from our past. My wife is a cigarette smoker so i've surprised her for few times bringing her some feminine cigarette stuff like lady lighters, table lighters, cigarette holders or boxes and whatever. Cheap and easy way to score with these simple yet lovely creatures
I should try to take a pic of these lighters sometimes, but i have to find them first. They are all over the house and my garage.Last edited by Sailor; 03-06-2011 at 03:56 PM.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I use a modified fold and stuff method. Just normal fold and stuff but before I load the pipe I take the folded flake between my fingers and lightly rub the tobacco out just a little, so the flake is still together but kinda roughed up (if that makes any sense at all ) I like this method works good for me. It does take a little practice to get used to. It is easy to overload a pipe this way.

Sunday
I was floating along in the salon of my ancient Rolls “Elizabeth” puffing happily on a bowl of My Mixture 965 in an old Root Briar (billiard, of course). A silver shaker of Boodles and Martini was nestled in the ice bucket, exactly as James had been instructed. The clubs were in the boot awaiting our arrival at the links for a rousing round with the chaps when…..
What the #$%@!!!………….OK, awake now…
I’m bumping up the country road in my ancient GMC half-ton “Jimmy”. On the way to the Home Despot to pick up a load of mulch and some faucet washers…with visions of an ice cold bottle of Michelob AmberBock at the end of my work.
