I've heard from Nightblade (Steph) tonight. All is well with him. He's been smoking a blend called 'Hobbits Weed' from the Tewkesbury store in Denver, Colorado in one of his Peterson pipes. Said to say thank you for asking after him, he's quite touched that we were missing him.

Does that mean he's in Denver?

C&D Haunted Bookshop in a Whitehall Grand National. To my tastes, this blend has always come across as Old Joe Krantz Light. The two are very similar in composition but Haunted Bookshop is very, very toned down, If there is perique in this blend, there's certainly not much. In fact, it's not detectable. It has the same, old school burley character as OJK but lacks the vitamin N bomb, borderline harsh, quality that I so love about OJK. Haunted Bookshop is however, a fine blend in its own right and is perfect for a tasty but mild, relaxing after dinner/work smoke. It has a bit of a cedar kind of aroma to it (probably due to its cube cut burley component) burns very slowly, and wouldn't bite if you kicked it. Very reminscent of some of the classic American "codger burlies" of the Golden Age of Pipe Smoking. This was probably the "old man" smell back in the day. Something our grandfathers would smoke while sitting on the porch playing checkers, mucking about the garage, doing some woodworking or a spot of fishing. This pipe, despite a rather plain Jane appearance is truly one of my superstars and it never met a burley it didn't like.
