I am a cigarette smoker, about 1/2 to 3/4 a pack a day. I want to quit. I have been able to do this for periods of time, but unfortunately I do enjoy smoking.

I was considering trying out a pipe. I feel like it would make ditching cigarettes more bearable if I had something to fall back on 2 to 3 times a day (I'm guessing cheaper and slightly healthier too). Has anyone here made that switch? Is it worth a shot? I have read a lot of stuff, but was hoping to get some real life experience mixed in before making the investment.

As a side note, I enjoy the aromatics of good cigars, but just am not a fan of partaking more than two or three times a year...I find most to be a bit too "thick", or maybe "harsh"...hard to find the right words to describe why I don't enjoy it...

I understand your plight all to well, as i love to smoke also, its currently my only destructive vice i have left(no steph tea dont count). my biggest problem is at work, where coffin nails are always what i have on hand, oh i have my pipes also, but not always as easy to enjoy with what i do. my biggest problem to get past is the hand to mouth syndrome that coffin nails give a person, that constant need that cigarettes give a person is the hardest thing to break for me. i will sometimes smoke a pack a night then one week it will be 2 packs all week, so i vary. im still fighting, but i agree, pipes are a wonderful change, the tobaccos are all so tasty, sometimes i wish i could roll it in paper and see what happens.

Thanks for all the insight guys! I think I'm going to start weefning myself off the figs, as I have done in the past. I will hunt around for an MM cob and some blends and try it out.

Go for it... i did it 7 months ago and feel a lot better. And wanting to smoke your pipe feels nothing like needing a cigarette.

Be careful when smoking your pipe to not sip the smoke in a way that it directly impacts your tongue when exiting the pipe. It's not like a cigarette and the steam that is produced will burn your tongue. You may not feel it immediately, but you'll wake up in the middle of the night and wonder if you've just clenched your tongue in your teeth.
