Thanked: 1160That metal thing is a filter which is pretty much useless.....chuck it. If you still can't get the pipe cleaner down it,then you should go to your local tobacco shop and get thinner cleaners . Cheers and Happy smoking. Also with your cob,if it's new, smoke your first bowl all the way down otherwise you may have trouble keeping the bowl lit. Cheers

Thanked: 227Hiya Nightblade.
Thanks for the feedback. I would like to try the filter out to see how it goes. My cob is well smoked in now lol. I shall have a jigger with a tapered cleaner, but am I correct in thinking dismantling right after smoking is a bad idea?

Thanked: 227Thanks again. I thought as much. One more query... Would an acceptable compromise be after the smoke to blow down the pipe to clear the shank, let it cool and then dismantle and clean with pipe cleaner? I vaguely remember reading this somewhere. Or I imagined it.

Thanked: 1160Hosestly...I guess you could blow down the shank but not to help cool it and it really won't do much to clean it. You're really just better of not trying to cut a corner and just let it cool on it's own. What's the rush, after all...pipe smoking is supposed to make you slow down and relax.......smoooooooth like whipped cream maaan .

Thanked: 1160We pipe smokers get our job done calmly, wisely and done right.....albeit slightly more relaxed.

Thanked: 227I gave it a smoke. Was nice and cool, not too sure im keen on the menthol shag I bought, something in the flavour I just cant get my finger on but hey. Also I cleaned the upper of the stem and then bent a tapered cleaner and it slid up the shank allowing me to give it a quick wipe out, and when it cools down I will dismantle and clean properly. I think that will become the routine.
