I do not use mine much either but they are handy when trying new blends. Cheap they are too and very easy to clean. i just put the pipe in my fireplace and take out in the morning. The pipe looks like new then.

I have used mine for small portions... Strong blends that might kick my A** if I smoke to much...

There don't seem to be a lot of "old school" pipe repair and resto guys around anymore. Dave said there's only about 10 or so "old guys" like him left in the states that really know what they're doing. My local shop here doesn't have anyone there who can repair or work on pipes. They just sell pipes and tobacco. I wonder who's gonna take up the art or repairing, making stems etc when these guys are gone...

Hey Sailor, ...wait, that didn't come out right...

Just a quick update on my meer. Dave looked at the pics and feels that it is repairable. I will be sending him the meer in short order. It will probably take a number of weeks to get it back given his busy repair schedule. I've asked him to give me an overview of the work he's going to do on it so I can marvel at it myself and pass it along to you. It will certainly be great to have my only meer in smokable form again!

I'll keep you posted as I learn more.
Just an FYI on Dave... I had a few Freehand stems laying around and asked Dave if he would cut the tenons for me to fit a standard cob... Eger to please he just did that... Three nice stems for my "Kick Around Cobs"

As I sit here in my favorite smoking spot puffing on it. I like it a lot. It smokes cool unless I go at it like the mad hatter. It seems to taste good no matter what blend I put in it. It's got a very easy draw and a very nice weight. As a warning I cannot compare it to much I've only ever had a Missouri meerschaum and a dr grabow but it easily blows them out of the water. It's the only one I reach for except when I smoke aromatics.
No that pistol isn't the only thing under my kilt, but I can tell you both of them work just fine

Cornell and Diehl Old Joe Krantz in a Whitehall Grand National. Increasingly this is pretty much my go to tobacco, occassionally I'll smoke something else just for a change but it never seems to take very long for me to pull the OJK back out. Great stuff.

Regarding Bow Legged Bear, as much as I'd love to smoke really heavy latakia blends they just don't agree with me. Purple Cow (also C&D) is another good thick latakia blend. Something with a bit less latakia is more to my liking. Billy Budd, and Epiphany are what I reach for typically when I'm in the mood for a darker tobacco. In fact, since the cooler weather is here, Billy Budd is probably my next tobacco order. For some really good stuff try Riverboat Gambler, my old friend Bob Runowski blended many great tobaccos but RG is probably his best work.
