Thanked: 1160That's why I like russians and slavic people so much. Growing up in the cold war era,I only knew the us against them part of it. But there was a wonderful hidden culture behind that Iron Curtain that I learned about.Government and Politics aside I found the russian people I've met to be full of heart and soul. The lady I know here grew up in Stalins time and has told me about growing up in that hard period. I listen and learn. The food the customs and even the mindset intrigues me. And I really wish I could be more immersed in the language because I love to here it spoken, including various other slavic languages. Bulgarian,Ukranian,Polish,Czech,Hungarian......old country man !

Thanked: 2027Are two types, that we call sidney paska, made at xmas and easter, made from farmers cheese is very labor intensive, takes my wife 3 days to make.
The other is a yellow bread (has to be made in coffee cans because that the way it was done at home) has a white sugar glaze on top and is loaded with saffron, both are fantastic.
