Thanked: 25Gah!! I love 1911s!! Those two Colts make me yearn for another one! All of my favorite carry pieces, with the exception of one .38 snubby I had, were 1911s. Im honestly thinking about ditching my P95 for another 1911. If I could have my way about it I would be carrying a Springfield TRP, but due to size that may not be an option, so Im now looking into other Springfield and Kimber models in the Commander's and Officer's sizes.

That range is called the Clay Pit. It's a big hole were they cut out the heavy, clay soil and sent it by rail to build, what was at the time, the World's Largest Earth filled dam; Oroville Dam. Below is two pics, one of the pit, and one of the dam; taken from the same vantage spot at the pit. For any out there who care about trivial things.

Thanked: 1936Mine is the kimber ultra cdp ii and the reliability is perfect, enough that I may pick up another to replace my wife's glock 26 for her carry if she continues to enjoy shooting it. Yes, it's that reliable. I have literally tried to make it jam, none to date & after today or tomorrow I should be at around 1K rounds thru it (mostly winchester ball in the white 100 round box). I've stacked the mag with mixed ammo from 185 gr hp to 230 gr ball, ran it dirty, ran it dry from lubrication, shot it limp wristed...no problems at ALL. I chose it over the colt because of the rounded edges, but I can't speak for the 3" colts reliability. Only ftf's were ammo related & those have only happened twice. Once was a true squib load with what I would assume zero powder and the other was just a little powder...both from bulk ammo & not self-defense rounds. Bullet left the bbl, but I was surprised in both cases...expected to have to ram out the stuck bullet. Carry's very well in super-tuck at about 4 o-clock. My only beef with it is the finish on the aluminum frame marks easily...dropped it one day on some rocks and put the first real marks on it. I may have the frame cerakoted one day, but I doubt it as it's a carry gun/shooters gun and not purchased to "collect". This gun has earned it's place as my primary carry with a naa pug in .22mag as back-up/last resort.

Thanked: 13245The new rules as of 1/16/13 were written to specically address these threads besides the ones in the Conversation.. if you cannot abide by those rules then don't post in this thread...
To all the members of SRP,
The Admins and Mods have had many lengthy discussions, with input from many of the Mentors and Members by PM. We have decided that due to the highly emotional state of the discussions regarding Gun Control, and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, now is not the time for any more of these discussions in the Conversation Forum on SRP.
This rule will apply to discussion of gun control, it will not apply to the threads that are strictly about firearms in the Finer Things forum, Hunting Threads, etc. Please keep in mind that any posts that attempt to disrupt or de-rail those threads will be regarded as Trolling by the Mod team whether for or against the Gun Control issue.
Please let's respect each others opinions, but let's leave those discussions to other places on the Internet, rather then SRP for the time being.Last edited by gssixgun; 01-22-2013 at 08:22 PM.

Politics isn't one of "The Finer Things in Life" anyway.
Any more nice 1911s out there?

Thanked: 25My last 1911 was a very highly modified RIA Compact 1911. I like to try my hand at gunsmithing and 1911s are my platform of choice. All of the internal parts were MIM, so I replaced them all with solid steel parts. I stoned the hammer spurs, the sear, and all of the metal on metal mating surfaces. I put in a new trigger, new night sights, extended safety, replaced all the springs and mainspring housing. Back when I got the pistol, I could pick it up new for about $400. The only thing I didnt swap out was the barrel. When all was said and done, I only had about $600 in the gun and man was it a fine shooting pistol.
Typically with the base priced 1911s, I've found that they have a reliability problem with hollow points and I like my firearms to feed anything I throw at them. RIA's however are one of the only cheap priced 1911 that I've found that reliably feeds hollow points right out of the box. But for a Commander's size 1911, it is a bit on the heavy size.
