Yea, the 6.5X55 Swede was another popular round here years ago with the influx of surplus military rifles. Never owned one but shot a few. I did have one of those small ring Brnos in 6.5X57 and a 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer in 6.5X54 MS. That last one besides being a sweet rifle to shoot was the grand dad of all the full stocked carbines to follow. A previous owner had thoughtfully fitted a Lyman swing arm peep sight the pivoted back and forth to allow the bolt handle to pass because of the split receiver bridge. You could even swing the fine peep opening out of the way and have a ghost ring.

Had a nice 280 Ross sporter at one time along with a couple of Canadian military Ross rifles on 303 British. If you disassembled the bolt to clean it and put it back together the wrong way you could be liable for a frontal lobotomy by the bolt when you next fired it. Always a thrill after a through cleaning. Some of the military models had a brass pin in the bolt sleeve so you could not take the bolt head off to cure the problem.

I'll stop the ramble now. I am damned glad I had a chance to own and shoot these though.

I've begun converting my old Remington 870 youth from a deer hunting shotgun to a home defense configuration. I'm planning on new stock, foregrip, barrel, extended mag XS big dot sight and possibly a light. So far I have the stock and mag installed. i decided to go with the Magpul 870 stock and so far its been great. I'll post pictures when I get the foregrip and again with the sight and barrel in place.

If you were to choose one gun for home defense, it's hard to beat a 12 gauge. Considering the range you'll be working within, I can't think of anything better. A light mounted on one is brilliant, no pun intended. Unless you live in a mansion, and distances are too great, if it's in the light beam, the target is in deep crap. Of all the sounds an intruder could hear, the sound of an 870 action being worked has to be the scariest.

There are three unmistakeable sounds, in my opinion,a shotgun being racked,a .45 doing the same thing ,and the snick of a switchblade. All get someones attition,in a hurry.

Oh, and I forgot one the rumble from my frind over there in my avatar.......

Yes! And the beauty of it is that the sounds are universal, understood anywhere and need no translation!

The dog would scare me most. Because it can go around corners, and does not care overly much for its own safety

And rightly so,she a little old now(12) but in her prime she could go right over a six foot stokade fence. I used to make a few bucks on people who bet me she could'nt jump up on a dumpster......they lost.

Quick follow up. On a chance meeting with friends at a pub the conversation steered over to what was in our collections, turns out one of the guys has a father who is a Master Armourer, so, 2 months and $125.00 later the Smith is back in action after a 10(?) year hiatus. Looking forward to putting a few downrange!
