Thanked: 1936I know they are expensive, but a CCW is still a tool...you need to think about it that way. These guys are right on about the finish, it's really tough. Most sigs I own and have owned are all stainless slides with an aluminum frame, so even if you have a blem in the finish from wear or a chip...you should be just fine. Take it apart, clean it, & lube it once a week on warm weeks and at least once a month in cooler weather and you will be just fine. When carrying, it's not the corrosion you need to worry about, it's dirt & lint...amazing how much can get into your weapon. There are very few blued steel weapons being carried concealed now days with the advancements in alloys and polymers, the stuff just deters wear and rust/corrosion.

Thanked: 32I was under the impression that all P229s were stainless slides on alloy frames. The P228 had a non-stainless slide. I like those grips!
I understand Wikipedia can be wrong, but they say this:
The P229 is nearly identical to the P228, however its slide is made from milled stainless steel (vs. the P228's forged carbon steel slide) and is available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG

Thanked: 1936Yes, the 228 was a carbon steel receiver made just for 9mm. They created the 229 for the larger more powerful calibers like the .40 s&w and .357 sig. I am not sure why a carbon steel slide wouldn't handle higher pressures...but I'm not a mechanical engineer either, could be simply weight. I have a p226 in .357 that is one tough guy for sure. One of my carry weapons is a 938. Sig makes some nice weapons...but I still have my Glocks too

I had a glock 19 and really didn't care for it. when I shot the P229 I knew that sig sauer was the way to go. I found the P225 and it was lighter and easier to carry so I put the P229 in the night stand drawer and now carry the P225. As far a better pistol or weapon I really think the only one out there better that a sig would be a lightening bolt thrown from ZEUS own hand

Well yes and no, but essentially you are correct...the P229 Elite has both stainless frame and slide. Mine (and most others) has a stainless (and often Nitron finished slide) and an anodized alloy frame. The P228 did not have a milled slide like the P229; that one was forged carbon steel.
Thanks for the compliment on the grips. Tulipwood (aka Yellow Poplar), State tree of my 2nd home...TennesseeLast edited by Phoenix51; 12-02-2014 at 04:12 PM.

Finally found a Winchester model 12, 16 gauge, modified choke, in near perfect shape for a reasonable price, local reloader supply had it on consignment for 600 bucks but he called the Guy who was selling it and he took the $550 I offered. Grew up with one just like it.
