ie:
If you are going to customize it, then the Rem 700 is an easy action to work, because there are tons of after-market parts to be had
Much like a Colt 45 action LC or ACP or the Colt AR style actions.. Rem 870 or Mossberg 500 Ruger 10/22 or Mini 14 all these are easy to jazz up because of parts availability
Take a Rem 700 and add Fast springs New trigger, pillars bedding etc etc etc all available with ease..

Funny thing about Remington. When I was growing up their rifles were always rated tops. I was a handgunner and didn't mess with a rifles until a year or two ago when I got a couple of Browning single shots, and then I was looking at Marlin lever guns.
Well on the Marlin owners forum they were gripping a lot about Remington's QC. Remington bought Marlin out and the RP (Remington-Peters) stamped Marlin barrels were a sign that you didn't want that firearm. Stick with a 'JM' (John Marlin) stamped rifle from before the takeover.
That is what I did with the two I picked up. On the Marlin Owner's forum they say RP is doing better with them now, and was looking at a couple in the LGS not long ago. They seemed real nice as far as fit an finish. I'm not sure if this supposed lack of QC had to do with RP being new to lever guns, or if the 'problems' extended to the bolt rifles. They've been making them forever.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It is an old pic, but I still have it. From the back: Winchester 223wssm (timney trigger), Winchester 300wsm (douglas bbl w/ douglas break, timney trigger), Rock river ar-15, Savage 10 in .308 pre-accutrigger (of course with Timney trigger), some ar that I built and long ago moved...Last edited by ScottGoodman; 02-06-2015 at 04:03 AM.

Feeling a little nostalgic this morning for all the guns I have owned that have been disappeared for one reason or another through the years, In chronological order starting at age 10 or so: single shot .410, Hi-Standard .22 revolver, WWII Browning Hi-Power, Beretta O/U .20 gauge, Sako Classic .270, Smith & Wesson Model 41 .22 caliber target pistol, Norinco 1911 (Sorry, didn't know any better) and a Colt 1911. Always loved guns....simple fact. Now all we have around is a Colt 1917 Property of the Guvmint. The pristine versions of this revolver are pretty cool but this one was used by my ladyfriend's veterinarian father to put down animals and kept under the seat of his station wagon, probably never cleaned....I used to handload and enjoy cleaning my guns almost as much as shooting them.
OK, end of nostalgia question for the educated....just saw American Sniper and the fictitious opponent of Chris Kyle at his specialty. Question is this, forgetting the fantasy distances......Can an AK based rifle compete with an AR for accuracy? And why are sniper rifles still generally seen in a bolt action configuration?"Call me Ishmael"

Thanked: 3225Haven't seen the movie but I'd bet dollars to donuts the opponent's rifle was a Dragunov SVD rifle which is probably no slouch in the accuracy department when used with the special sniping round made for it.
Rapid fire is not really a requirement for the "fantasy distances" that specialty 50 cal and 338 Lapua rifles are employed at. Bolt action rifles are probably still viewed as more reliable then an auto loader.
WRT "fantasy distances" Longest recorded sniper kills - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . These distances are mind boggling especially having shot 1000 yard matches but they are quite real.
