So now you have an expensive pair of ill fitting boots and an even more expensive pair of even more ill fitting boots.
I always get ripped by one of my workmates about my toecaps, they seem to take a shine better than the rest of my boots, they actually dont its just that leather is flatter there due to the steel underneath.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I want to disagree with and agree with this post. The written tone bothers me.
Don't buy boots over the internet. How many hours are you going to wear them? $50 USD or AUS over their life is minor. Buy them from your local shop!
Work boots are meant to be used and abused. I oil mine but don't shine them. they have a short life.
High top shoes and boots to me are a different thing....
Does this make sense?

32t, the post was meant to be in jest, and I would assume Carl would read it so, if you are referring to the first paragraph.
I would not post a malicious comment without good reason. I was referencing (possibly slightly paraphrasing) one of frankensteins earlier posts.
In fact I would not post a malicious comment at all. Sometimes I think some of my posts may have been somewhat abrasive, but this would have been in response to an issue I felt strongly about.
And you are right, if the product will last for a long time with appropriate care then it is an investment and not an expense. hope that clears that up.
It is quite hard to get a wide selection of footware in Australia, so internet shopping is sometimes the best way to get a style you like, but as Carl has demonstrated sizing is tricky.
For the record, I actually like both pairs of boots.

Thanked: 485You're both right. Buying footwear or clothing over the 'net is risky. I was assuming I could send them back if they didn't fit and swap them; however they ended up being just about the last pair; and no 1/2 sizes! I often have a dilemma in shoe sizes, my left foot is almost a whole size larger; so there's got to be a tradeoff.
I'd rather boots too large than too big. In fact, the ones I thought WERE too big are in fact fine. However, the new ones ARE a tad largish, but not TOO bad. Again, if I need to wear too pairs of socks I will.
In regards to the caustic comments, the whole thread is splattered with them. You should see the hat thread! many a night I've sat at the computer weeping at the bullying...
Oh, E'd also right about the selection of footwear thing. Of COURSE we have a LOT of footwear outlets, but very few with real quality, esp since I want something a little different, not made in China, etc.
I'm amazed at how long this thread went for. I'd be interested in some stories and photos of polishing techniques, before and after shots would be interesting...Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

My last post was written with my mood for the moment.
I have influenced this thread in a way that I didn't think of when I wrote the post about Carl having small feet. I mentioned how large mine are. I have a hard time finding shoes for that reason. Originally I meant that as a joke more on me but it got twisted around to tease Carl. Oh well.
A good friend of my mothers had polio and one of her feet is much smaller than the other. She has to buy two pairs to get a match. Long before the internet she belonged to a group that would set up people with the same problem but on opposite feet. When you bought two pairs rather than throwing half away you could give them to the other person.

Could someone explain the following sentence?
I'd rather boots too large than too big.
What? Is this another one of those "Aussie" things, and I, being American, will just never be able to understand? Are you talking length vs width? Anyway, other than fitting problems you may be having with them, that last pair of boots look pretty good Carl.

Thanked: 983I take a size 12 shoe, but a size thirteen is also a comfortable fit (differing sizes of feet, with one being larger than the other), so the 13's are too large but still comfortable, if I was to wear a size 14, well then I've stepped up into a shoe size that is too big for my feet and would now be uncomfortable and useless as footwear for me.
Does that help explain it for you Don?

So, bigger is larger than large, if something is too large, any larger would be too big. Large is OK, unless it's too large then it's too big. Got it!! At the risk of confirming the fact that I really have no life, I actually looked up the difference between big and large. The words are pretty much interchangeable, but sometimes taken to mean different things. For example, although Carl my not be large in stature, he maintains a big presence on the forum. Anyway, it's too late for me to heat up my already taxed brain. I'll think about it some more tomorrow. Thanks for the explanation Mick!
