Glad to see some other interest in the concept.
today was a test shave day... my newly acquired bj eyre and w.greaves and son were both 'bay buys and needed lots of love i cheated a bit with them... 1k, 2k & 3k shaptons to get the edge and bevel ready. then on to the krystolo... the eyre came up beautiful after about 400 laps the greaves i lost count on.
started the shave with the greaves and the edge just was not there after the first cheek was done WTG. switched to the eyre finished the wtg and xtg with it. it was not ready for the ATG close but not really there. did the ATG with the stehlo. minimal burn when i was done no nicks... i think the eyre is going to be a suburb blade.
enjoy,
jim

Monday morning.. Larkin razor and the Crown hone again today. Erasmic cream, 404 boar and badger brush. Alum, Clubman Bay Rum. Smooth shave , no burn with the alum, hardly noticeable with the aftershave. Finished up with Nevia lotion.

Thanked: 1262I did not do a "DiluSwat" or anything. I have just been doing a 5 stroke touchup on my swaty and liking the results.

I agree with Kelly it is a good thread. Barber hones are very effective for keeping a razors edge maintained.

Another morning. Little cold today. Few flakes of snow in the air. Used the Larkin and the Crown again this morning. Ok shave. Disappointed in the soap. Used La Toja shave stick. Good lather , poor slide.

Been reading some older past notes on Barber Hones and came across one where hone instruction originally recommended lapping each side with two different grits. Thus giving a medium and a fine side to the same hone.
As luck would have it receive an old Pike Swaty in the mail today and will be trying it for tomorrow's shave.

Hmm...this is interesting. All polishing done on BH? How many laps is that taking you, normally?

Not sure what went wrong but the new old pike swaty lapped differently on each side was a bummer!! Halfway through the 1st pass this morning realized that the Larkin went a-little dull!! Actually had to stop and rehone the razor on the Crown.
Not sure where the pike swaty is going from here but not on the Larkin again.
