Friday the 13th! So far so good! Did have a pleasant experience shaving this morning. Muhle Sea Buckthorn shave soap! Used it for the 1st time this AM. Very nice lather, very nice lub. ?but what's a Sea Buckthorn ??
Shaved with the Larkin again this morning, Crown Hone. Also used my new Omega 48 this morning. Nice, handle is a little thick but not bad.

Been using the Stehlo razor since the test shave day still cutting like a champ. for the shave curious i have limited my soap to tabac, one of my favorites, and the brush is a 55mm loft, 24mm shavemac custom from the 2007 group buy still one of my favorite brushes. tomorrow i think i will use the Eyre again.
i think my issue with the Greaves form the other day is the geometry of the razor it just does not feel right the thin shank and the long blade i need a little more care on the honing since the muscle memory is not really kicking in too well on it.

Saturday. Used the Larkin again this AM. Brush was a horse hair, soap was Nanny's Rasage Traditionnel, alum, alum, Lucky Tiger AS, alum, Nivea Replenishing Balm. Not sure what happened started out the same with the Larkin and the Crown. WTG was ok ATG not that good. Few scraps, right side.
Thinking about a good honing with theCrown tonite. If still substandard might switch to another razor I have ready.

As an experiment, I kept 7 razors shave ready for one year with just a Swaty barber hone doing just 3-5 strokes. Minimal work, just a few lapps here and there. The trick is to not let the razor get too dull before going to the barber hone. They work really well. A C12k, or Escher will work too. Harder is better, like a B/G Escher.

Thanked: 114I realize that I'm 1/2 a month late, but I'm willing to play. I had fun and learned alot from the JaNortion experiment. I have three BHs the I have never used (bought them before HAD diverted my attention to other stones :-) ). I figure this is as good a time as any to play with my neglected BHs. I've chosen a Genco and Henry Sears to contribute to the experiment. The stones I will be using are two Swatys and an Amerco. Should be fun!

Thanked: 109Okay I'm in. Took a small Genco rolled the edge on a strop and one light swipe on the edge of a cup. Brought it back with 10 X strokes on the rough side and 5 X strokes on the smooth side then 4 strokes on a Crox strop and 60 on leather. I will shave with it tomorrow but the edge feels right on TPT.

Thanked: 109Well after nothing more than a few passes on a HSB & Co. OVB barber hone and couple on Crox followed with leather the shave was great. Good as I have ever had. I haven't been straight shaving enough to escape being a noob so maybe I just haven't really had the best shave yet but no pulling XTG went smoothly and got more than half my ATG without incident. I have only once been able to complete a ATG pass before my skin just doesn't want any more. I don't push it but every time I seem to get farther and better.
The little Genco is a keeper and moves closer to the front row. The Arko has settled down now and doesn't smell so much like the disinfectant in a public toilet and it lathers well with the new 24mm knot Silvertip brush I got from the Whippeddog.Last edited by jaswarb; 04-16-2012 at 07:29 AM.
