If you are willing to deal with the raffle tickets Peter then that is super. Can I suggest, having given this a bit of thought and phoned a friend or two that we consider this way of working:
On reflection I reckon the price you suggest Peter and the ticket allocation a good idea. There are around 15-20 prizes, at least two of them worth £100 - £150. Most of them worth well over £20 and upwards.
Once you have won a prize you bow out for any other prizes in a gentlemanly (or lady like!) fashion. You may in that instance be unlucky and win something slightly below your donation but your chances of at least getting your money back in prize terms is high.
To keep the interest going we don't get rid of the best ones immediately but keep them till nearer the end of the draw (it ain't going to last long!). Why doesn't somebody (Silver?) stand at the raffle prize table and lift one randomly up describing what it is and another person (I am happy to do this) go round with the folded tickets in a hat and ask somebody to draw one. The winner of that prize draws the next ticket.
I have been involved in raffles before and if you don't have clear rules the mob can get vicious - and we don't want a blade wielding mob! I think keeping it simple like this without worrying about bags etc. should be fine?
Hope that seems reasonable - please pm me Peter, Silver or Sandy if you strongly feel this should be different. Just fgeel that we have coverred the ground quite well on this one re the thread. It is just a small part of the day after all.
cheers
Stephen

Well at least I won't have to drape myself over a bonnet!
Sounds good to me, I was just saying to Spike that the ticket price sounds about right in regards to the prizes available.
As I will be doing the "glamourous assistant" thing, shall I bring my Playboy bunny ears too

Your idea for the raffle sounds fair & practical Stephen.
The plan seem to be that immediately after the meet, we will head across the road to the Hare & Hounds for food. Then head back to accomodations to drop kit & head into town for the evening's entertainment. If I could get an idea of how many want to come to the pub afterwards, I will call them to warn how many of us crazies will be descending. PM or post here. So far, there are:
Spike
Silver
Makar
Blueprinciple (what about your Mrs?)
sidney kidney
English
I do not need an absolute yes or no, just an idea of numbers.
Does anyone have a travel shaving mirror that they could bring for me to use in the shaving demo? I do not fancy shaving blind with a new razor in front of a crowd

Put me down for the pub afterwards.

Thanked: 131Not sure I entirely agree with this idea. Whats the incentive of buying more than one ticket then? With so many prizes you are just as likely to win any given prize. Which in turn discourages multiple ticket purchases and therefore lessens the charity donation.
It would be far better to go with English's original suggestion the way it was. Each ticket £5, cap of 4 tickets each. Or make two the limit on the number of prizes.

Given the number of attendees & prizes on offer, whichever way the draw works, there will be someone who is unhappy. To be honest, it is not so much a raffle as a prize draw. If the prizes are limited to one each, there is a good chance that most people will get one. If you could win two prizes there is a higher chance that some people will not win anything. Is anyone really buying more tickets for any reason than to increase the donation to the Children's Hospital? We will buy as many as we can afford, but that may not be the maximum allowed. That would come to £40 & would prevent us attending the meal & evening festivities. Alternatively, the tickets could cost £10 each & you could only buy two but also have a pot for Straight donations.
Could we add a proviso that you can refuse the prize you donated, & only that prize, but still be eligible for a later prize? I honestly believe that Makar's plan works best for all concerned. Sorry sidney
I have heard from Geo F Trumper's. They will be sending me enough samples for everyone to smell of Limes, Violets or something similarly scrumptious
As an aside, Silver's name badge really should read "Guess who?"

Thanked: 131I dont get it She wont be the only female there. There are others bringing partners. Or was it a reference to the corset?
As for the raffle, I dunno... refusing prizes? Seems to be becoming such a palava.... And turning down a prize in the hope you get something better seems a bit insulting to me. I'd be a bit cheesed off if anyone turned down my wapi in the hope of getting a brush Just seems not right.
EDIT: Oh I just re-read that. You mean refuse the prize YOU donated. So if I won the wapi I put in then I could put that back in. Yeah I understand that now. That makes sense. I'd agree with that.
I still dont agree with the way the raffle is being worked out but I have to go with the consensus. So come on everyone, what do you all think about the issue?

Thanked: 174I don't agree with my own raffle suggestions any more. They won't work.
I've PM ed Makar with some new thoughts.
The truth is it's not a raffle, there are two many prizes. We'll come back on new thoughts soon.
But the good news is everybody will get a name badge to take home and after a mammoth shopping expedition, we have raffle tickets even if we don't quite know what to do with them yet. So all is not lost. Six and a bit days to go. Exciting isn't it.
