I'll tell you what - in years to come those name badges will be priceless. You'll be able to be at the 2018 do and sigh "well yes, I was there in '08 - right at the start of it all - a lot different then of course, we were real pioneers and even had to make our own coffee - no machines then tsk tsk I ask you....blah blah blah blah" ad nauseum! It will be great! And I'm going to frame my raffle tickets as I will be taking them all home with me (Then I'll raffle 'em in 2018!).

You are probably right, Steve. In years to come, we will think "Why the hell did we make such an unncecessary fuss about the raffle, for goodness sake?" I am bowing out of this discussion. The raffle is not the point of the meet, the meet & what we can learn from each other is. Just so long as Silver or I win the LE Dovo
Seriously though, let us keep it simple & if anyone does not like how the raffle is being run, they do not have to buy a ticket. But they will still have to make a "voluntary" contribution to the pot. I will be wearing a cilt & am not afraid to use it

Thanked: 11Why not forget about 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes and do it more like an Irish raffle. 1st ticket drawn gets to choose a prize from the full selection, second ticket gets to choose from what's left etc. It should solve the problem of winning your own prize for the most part. Also, some peeps are into razors, some are into rocks etc. and this would alow them to choose the prize which best suits them, while still keeping it all very simple.
I agree that the raffle should not take over the event, and I don't think that is what anyone is going for. But allowing it to be at the forefront of the discussion for a while really aint so bad, if it gets things organised to suit most people.
Thanks again to the organisers of this event. Looking forward to it.

Thanked: 174All the ideas are good but that ain't the problem.
This is not a normal raffle with three prizes and 200 people sitting in a bingo hall. That's easy.
Our raffle is for about 25 people and 15/20 prizes.
We want the rule to be that you only win one prize so that as many as possible get something.
The more tickets you buy, the greater the chance of yours coming out of the hat first and you being able to select the prize of your dreams.
THIS IS THE POINT.......
If we sell a lot of tickets at say £1 each and you want every body to have a prize, each time somebody wins, their remaining tickets (remember you can only win one prize) stay in the hat. As the raffle progresses, the hat is going to be full of tickets that will need to be waived. So think about it, somebody is going to be taking a ticket out of a hat and saying number 38..... but number 38 has gone to the toilet because he won the second prize and he's not interested anymore. So the whole proceedings stops. Such a raffle will not work.
The raffle will only work if we buy one ticket each. The question is how much is a fair price.?
I think the minimum is £10 and I would like to think a fair price is £20. But I just don't know. That's the only point that needs to be resolved I think.

Thanked: 131I for one will not be going to the toilet when the tickets are being drawn.
So whats the solution? Write your initials on the back of the tickets that goes into the hat. Then have an honest person drawing (say a member of the community hall staff) who isnt looking at initials. That solution means there is no need to have a compulsory ticket limit (although I still think a cap is helpful).
Problem solved.
This argument is totally detracting from my anticipation of the day.Last edited by sidneykidney; 09-14-2008 at 10:39 AM.

Thanked: 174So, what I think should happen is:
On arrival, Silver, the one in the corset, will greet you with your name tag. You pay £ 10 for the name tag or if you are feeling benevolent you can contribute more.
Don't loose your name tag
Later in proceedings, all the name tags will go into a big black bag and be drawn out by your good selves.
First out gets first pick from the table of goodies, etc.,etc.,
Any objections......sing now......
Peter.
PS So that means I wasted my money on raffle tickets, but I will get over it and thanks for your sympathy.
