Timebomb: you are always welcome, just keep your eyes out in this forum later this summer for a Spokane meet and we will probably do this one again in the spring next year.
Guys and gals: I was just informed that there are very few open hotel rooms in the area. If you haven't gotten your hotel rooms yet please do.

Eeek! No kidding rooms are booking up! Mark bugged me tonight, are we going to the Yakima meet? We better book our room. Ok, Ok.
I checked a little online and it wasn't looking promising, Oxford Inn (suggested location) is booked with the exception of a smoking room. Fortunately the gentleman on the line suggested their sister location next door, I called the Oxford Suites. I was so focused on the date and getting a room I didn't even say hello to the nice lady who answered the phone and just blurted out, "Do you have anything available on 5/5?" the gal politely responds, "Let me take a look. How is your night going?" I apologized for my rudeness and started to chit chat, told her that my BF's sports car got hit (followed by the "run") in the parking lot when I took the kiddo to the doc today. Nice huh? (Ok, back to the story.) The lady inquired why I was visiting Yakima and I informed her a "Straight Razor convention" She replied "A what?!?" I summed it up as you know the scary thing your grandpa would shave with... "Oh yeah!" That started a great convo on DEs and the advantages of shaving with the good stuff. Before she even told me if they had a room (online showed none) she said, "I can't wait to talk to you more when you stay here!" Turns out they had one room left (random? maybe... or a new friend who's hookin us up ) before we got off the line I got her email address and will soon be sending her some info and a link to the forum that helped me concur my fears of shaving with a straight. I am looking forward to bringing my friend at the Oxford Suites some samples, maybe she will attend the next local meet!
This hobby/art/ritual of wet shaving really does have a unique ability of bringing very cool people together. Have a great night all, see ya in Yakima!

Well ladies and gentlemen, I have a couple of surprises for you when you arrive...they sure as heck surprised me!
I hope everyone is scheduled and ready.
I have arranged to pick up a couple of cases of meat and once I recover a little more I will go to the mill shop and select more wood for people's brushes. I also got in some new epoxy finish for the brushes.

Rock on, Gerrit! Sarah conveniently scheduled her illness for this week also just so it wouldn't interfere with our Yakima trip. What a trooper! So this Spokane contingent is counting down the days till Cinco de Mayo.

Sunnyside is about 30 minutes south of Yakima. Ellensburg is also about the same distance. If you haven't booked make sure you call. They reserve the last few rooms off the websites.

I hope that this time next year this will be too big for my parents house. I may have to get the church or Eagles.

Thanked: 7I really regret to inform Gerrit et al that Susan and I will be unable to attend the goings on in Yakima due to previous commitments. I was sooo looking forward to seeing the lathe in operation. I do not own one and don't know a single person in my community that does and there is nothing even remotely related to shaving brush turning on Youtube so to see it in person would have been most excellent. I sincerely hope someone will set up a camcorder and tape at least some lathe time...in fact and even better yet...I hope someone will tape the entire sequence of brush making with the ultimate goal of posting it to Youtube. Susan and I will be attending the Spokane meet later this year, but I seriously doubt that the restaurant owners would appreciate Gerrit setting up the lathe at our table so this is why I ask for someone to tape in Yakima. Thanks all, and have a great time in Yakima.
