To be honest when I started using a 100 power scope, honeing lost the fun factor, I saw things that were of no import to the final goal of a good shave.
Thanks, it's like with all tools and tests. You have to know how to use them and how to read their feedback. To me it is a great teaching device. I lack the experience of thousands of honed razors and have no "honemeister" at hand. With the microscope I can learn to develop my senses and actually see what I am doing right or wrong.

My goal is not to get a perfect looking edge, but one that gives me a georgeous shave. It's like learning what "sharp" feels on the thumb.

Nitpicking, yes! Thanks, I knew it was only almost right.

Actually I am quite happy with the microscope. If You don't want to have a hard time, just turn the magnification down . I started with a loupe but prefer to see it on my notebooks display. For getting help from You guys, it's much easier being able to present something.

This has been a hard time and I don't know if I'm really through it yet, but through this all I have learned so much of the "stone's language". I now know what it feels and sounds like if everything is fine or something is wrong.

    Thanks

    Frank

Did I mention, the shave was tremendous?

It's 1:30 here, way past midnight.
If nothing dramatical happens within the next few hours, I'll have nothing to shave in the morning and will be way too early in the office...

Good night and thanks again for all Your support

Sometimes you don't really know how and when you learned something, it just suddenly works!
I hope your hones won't give you any more trouble.

No that's the burr that disappears on the next stone.

Yes microscopes are great for presenting e-pictures but for regular honing 8-10x is plenty.
    Congrats on the success.

But that's OK, is it? This is not the one You were talking about, being responsible for issues?

I'll use it less and less the more experience I get. And a good loupe combined with developed senses is much faster too.
