These are my "Tape" shears, simple bevel type. I honed them by doing x strokes on the flats and the riding area around the pivot, first on a dmt then the 1k. Then I inked the bevel and honed it on the 1k, matching the bevel with draw strokes, until a burr was produced. They cut tape cleanly and that's all I care about ! As a side note,my ex-wife was a hair dresser and had several very expensive Japanese style shears ,hollow ground and with convex cutting edges. Those are a whole different animal to sharpen and were sent away to be professionally done.

They are different, Ozarkedger, gave a small tutorial on sharpening them at Howard's in May. Way above my pay grade. Tc

I liked Scott's (ozarkedger) method much better than what is shown in the videos. The video grinds on the face that you are trying to preserve the most. Also the video shows removing the final bur by cutting a paper towel, and that becomes your finished cutting edge??? Not!

I tried this too and went from Chosera 1K right to a 8X3 coticule with water only. did 100 passes on the coticule and the shave was great.
    Go figure!
I guess I don't need slurry after all???
I am going to have to try this more on different types of steel and see what happens.
