I broke down like a little girl and order one yesterday. Weak weak man. My rational was that I could have Jnat finishes (which I always wanted to get into someday) without the hazel of trying several and learning differences before I could master one, and for less price of an Escher. The Yen is at its lowest its been since 2009, another reason, to get it now. But why I'm explaining my self to a bunch of hone addicts? The one I need to explain my self to is the wife, and there is no argument with her! Double O

I can see the argument for "finishes could be some what subjective". I have experience it myself, when I check on my notes on a razor that I thought for sure was finished on the Y/G Escher and see it was finished on the Zulu, I get pleasantly surprise. However, when the comparison between the Ferrari and Maserati are close, but one of them has the price of a BMW, and the reliability (consistency) of a Toyota, then you know which one is the winner! Please update us when you try out your new hone. If you ordered it using EMS shipping, it will be at your house in a week.
I look forward to your impressions of the stone.

Anyone currently using, or have used the Shapton GS stones? I'm wondering how the Gokumyo 20k compares to the Shapton 16k. I see the Guacamole is getting high praise.

It sure has to do something for that kind of coin. I get dang smooth, compatitive and better than other edges I've tried, using Shapton 16 and/ or Naniwa 12. I dunno. I'd like to try one just to see what the fuss is about though. I'd like to drive a Maserati too.

Reminds me of a sign in a hot rod shop years ago, "Speed is expensive, how fast do you want to go ?" That is the issue for those of us who have finishing stones that are giving satisfactory, or even better edges. Is the allure of "the next big thing" strong enough to overcome the reluctance to part with the coin ? Is the edge going to be $280.00 better than what I'm shaving with now ? Than again, look at how much I'm saving, not having to by cartridge razor refills !
