I love my Fairbairn-Sykes knife, but it's probably not for carry. Don't try to chop wood or open cans with it either For everyday carry I like the Camillus Cuda. Not sure if they make them anymore, but you can still get them for pretty cheap on ebay.

I find it odd that I'll see or hear about something I'm not familiar with, and it will show up on the SRP site somewhere. Just yesterday I was watching a show on the Military Channel about the Royal Marines and their history. They had quite a bit on the Fairbairn-Sykes knife and after the show I just had to Google them. Awesome knife. Too bad I live in California, can't have one here. Like I said, awesome knife and the history behind it was really cool. I have a KaBar and it's legal here, if the top part of the blade near the tip is not sharpened. I'm very happy the state has taken it upon its self to help keep me safe from such evil.

I'll have to check, muddle through the legal terms, and get back to you. I don't want to spread false information. But, I know for sure that anything with a double edge is considered a "dirk or dagger" and are illegal to carry. Maybe, they are ok to own, but I've had trouble before even getting a company to ship anything remotely like that to California, they just don't want the hassle. As with many things here, even those who enforce the law are often confused by them, I'll check on buying one, but I kinda doubt it.

OK, this is what I came up with. Remember, this is how I understand the law. From what I've found, I can own a double edged knife, "dirk or dagger", but can only carry it as "open carry". This is where one would have to be very careful, as concealment is determined by the officer. I would imagine the only place they would not have a problem with it being carried, is if it were duct taped directly onto the forehead. Actually, I'm kinda happy I looked into this, it was my understanding that I couldn't possess one at all.

One thing in Cali that is for sure a no no, is a cane sword. I always thought these were somewhat of a novelty, a joke of sorts. Till I watched a couple videos put out by Cold Steel on the one they offer. Wow, is the only word to describe it. Since a leg break darn near two years ago, followed by a total ankle replacement in November, I've come to accept that I'll be using a cane for the remainder of my life. I don't know how criminals think, but I would imagine if they see a wounded, limping person with a cane, they would assume me to be easy prey. I've put in for a CCW, but I really like the cane sword idea.
