Ditto Bombay. You may already have a preference if you use DE's in you Shavette, but if you don't, then definitely get a 'sample' pack of a few different blades. As much variety as you can lay your hands on. That way you'll find a blade that both suits you face, and your razor.

+1 on that suggestion, that's how I started with my DE.

Hi Kev, I occasionally use a shavette a Feather AC-DX and it's pretty lethal compared to a normal straight you need absolutely zero pressure to shave with anymore than zero when loaded with Feather Pro blades and it becomes a slicing machine it will eat your face up, there's a very good online shaving store I buy a few things from in Dublin called shaving.ie I'll leave you the link, and a picture of my SOTD using a Feather AC-DX with a Pro blade.

I'm using feather pro blades in mine at the minute. They seem to work well but I have no comparison. So I'll probably take your advice.

Or just buy 100 of the first blade you tried, that's what I did....

Pressure is definitely the key with a shavette. I try to imagine I'm only trying to remove the soap. That seems to work

That's absolutely spot on Kev, and when you have been using a shavette for sometime the first thing you will notice when you step over to a traditional straight how much more important technique will play in delivering a good shave, it's almost like trying to compare a automatic car to a manual transmission a shavette almost shaves on auto pilot, you need to fly a traditional straight using manual controls.

Surely a disposable multi-blade razor is the automatic. With the shavette being a manual and the straight being some sort of high maintenance, high performance vintage british sports car that runs on pure ethanol that you make yourself

Lathered up with some Proraso and took the DE for a spin last night for the first time.

I used a Lord Super Platinum blade, and aside from the Gillette being very small, it really gave a great shave, no nicks or cuts!!

Also, was very cool at how close and comfortable a shave it gave, can see using it more!

Downside is, I now have nothing to fear, but fear itself, and snakes....
