A 4/8 will shave as well as any other, but they are not green, you waste far to much water rinsing them.
    8/8 or nothing

    Noob question! lol

Why do they take more water to rinse? Forgive me if this is a really stupid question.

And yes VERY awesome razor. I was too intimidated by bigger blades price ranges to commit. I don't mind losing out a bit, but several hundred makes me nervous. lol

The 4/8 needs to be rinsed more often then a larger size simply do to its size. They can hold less waste then a larger blade. The amount of water used is really the same. Don't worry about your DH starting with a 4/8 i started with one and still use them all the time. It will really help him learn to strop right.

Also it's awesome that it is his first fathers day present. I am actually waiting for my first to be born ( due in August)

Okay, now I see what you mean! I guess that's one of those things you don't think about when you're use to using cartridges, but straights don't get clogged of course. I also don't mind that, and I'm sure he won't too much either... worse case scenario he gets a good arm work out.

And congrats!! Are you excited? I was SO nervous at first because I've never been around kids... no siblings, no cousins... nothing. Although once they're here it's like second nature... so cliche, but so true... and it seems like yesterday we were at the hospital. lol Do you know the sex?

P.S. - Enjoy it while they're immobile! DS (dear son) just started crawling the past couple days and it's such a pain to chase him down every 10 minutes while trying to take my college exams online. lol

Yeah we both are excited about it and can't wait! We decided not find out the sex so it will be a surprise for everyone.

We aren't to nervous( not saying there isn't any) about the actual caring for the child. Both of us have large families and work in fields that have us working with kids of all different ages.

Yeah I know what you mean about them growing fast my two nephews (2 1/2 and 6 months) are growing like weeds.

Aww, that's so great I've always wanted a big family and both mine and DH's are small. lol You're both definitely blessed! I totally pride you on waiting to know the sex, I could never do that. I get wayyyy too impatient. Maybe next time if I find some iron will.

I hope everything goes well and smoothly for all three of you! ... and surprise pedicures are the bomb for a uncomfy mommy to be... just an FYI. lol!

    Thank you.

And to everyone... you guys really know how to make a gal feel welcome! I was sort of nervous at first since it's not exactly a common place for women, but everyone has really been nice. I really appreciate it!

I don't use any more water with my 4/8s, but I swirl them in the filled basin and don't run water to rinse. I just rinse out the sink afterwards. Now, many will warn against this as you can nick your blade if you're not careful. You just have to be careful, he can't get distracted while removing detritus from the blade...

I really love my remaining 4/8s. One is a Wostenholm IXL and the others is a Richards and Conover Kansas. Don't worry, the one you got shaves just as well and looks a heck of a lot better, Robeson was a fantastic razor company, it merely has a yellow handle, and I am thinning my collection to all black handles. You probably got my best example of a Vintage blade in near perfect condition (it hasn't even been restored).

Plus I have a baby due on Thursday, yes, you heard right, day after tomorrow (SWMBO is still at work). She could go any second, and the docs thought she would go early... that isn't happening. So I am going to need the money for Diapers - - Thanks btw. your hubby should absolutely love it. I still have to sell some more of my yellow handled bad-boys so I can afford to get her the 4th and 5th months worth(when she will be headed to day care which is ridiculous $800-1800 per month *I don't have that many razors*).
