It definitely a great IPA. I thought Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was just okay, until I tried Torpedo. Torpedo is near the top of the list for serious IPA's.

I had a Revolution Anti Hero IPA at a hotel bar near O'Hare airport a few weeks ago. I think that is brewed in Chicago. It was a damn good IPA. One of the best that I have tasted in a while.

Last week I tried another on tap IPA at Bull McCabe's in downtown Durham, North Carolina, Southern Tier's Unearthly, Imperial Pale Ale. This one is sold on tap and in bomber size. 9.5 % ABV, 23degree plato, 2-row pale malt, cara-pils malt, red wheat, kettle hops: chinook & cascade, hop back: styrian golding, dry hopped: cascade, centennial & chinook. Southern Tier is not from the south, but from Lakewood, New York.

Just try it. Unearthly and unbelievably tasty.
If you get a chance to try Flower Power India Pale Ale - Ithaca Beer Company, don't pass it up. IPA's are one of my favorites as well and this one out of upstate NY left an impression on me.

OK, I am not really a beer drinker but a few years ago a friend of mine on this forum (Mark - if you are reading this we miss you buddy) suggested I try a Belgian beer called Duvel.

Well yesterday I finally found some (hadn't been looking too hard, to be honest). It was $10 a bottle (stubbie size) or I could get a special box with 4 bottles and a special Duvel beer glass for $40, so I got the latter.

I had two bottles last night - holy moley! I don't quite have the beer vocabulary to describe it, but it seemed a bit fruity and rich and really smooth, and I'll be honest - after two I was basically stuck to the couch and at the mercy of whatever tv show my wife wanted to watch!

Anyway, probably everyone already knows it, but if you don't I'd suggest giving it a try - really nice beer, but if you are like me and are a two-pot screamer, just imbibe frugally (I think it's 8%).

    James.

I haven't seen Flower Power in my area. I'll have to check Sam's Quik Shop in Durham. It has most every beer available to North Carolina. Some beers have limited distribution.

    Nessmuck,

Your "hard times" photo brought back fond memories of days long ago, when money was short and the beer had to be cheap. Many moons ago, in High School, our financial situation forced us to seek out the cheapest beer, the most bang for the buck. Our go to beer was usually whatever we could get, but if given a choice, it was Lucky Lager. We could get a twelve pack of eleven ounce bottles for around two bucks. It was usually warm, as we were too cheap to buy ice. The beer itself was actually not too bad. And, they had those word puzzle games under the cap, so that was fun. Sometimes when I plunk down over 8 bucks for a six pack I remember the good ole Lucky Lager and that I could have bought two cases for the same price.

1974; I was 21 years of age. Budweiser cost $1.25 a six pack, $5.00 a case. Minimum wage was $2.01/hr then, $8.25/hr today. In that same state, Bud is $14.00/case today.

Much as I hate to accept it, for the value of a dollar, Bud cost much more back then than it does today. Beat that with a stick.

I'll spend more money, though, for a nice hoppy ale. Drink a whole lot less and enjoy it a whole lot more.
